Orientations for Express-1 and Panther were similar in one big aspect... both said they had record breaking years last year, and expect the same this year. Years ago both had to lower rates in order to keep competative. Now that they're both making buku bucks again, where's our cut?
This is more toward P2 than E-1 since the latter has been "gracious" enough to give back .05 of their cut from a few years back. What's up with P2 though? They used to boast $1.35/mi and had to cut it .15 for the sake of survival. Now that things are going great for them, it's time to pay what is fair.
After all the truck expences are taken care of, my cut is hardly enough to make a living off of. Fuel easily takes 25-30% with surcharge hardly making a dent. I've been getting more than my share of .06 to .10 surcharges and I've been turning those down as I'm hurting enough as it is.
I don't think I'm being unfair by saying P2 needs to bump their rates by .10 to .15. Afterall, the owners who've been there a number of years are making 1.35, they're doing the same job we are.
