Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking

for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal
government hasn't solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and
trailers) are?

Why isn't the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in
Chicago ?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees
that failed in Des Moines ?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen
television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a
'vanilla' Iowa , because that's the way God wants it?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of
cannibalism?

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates
white, rural people?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa
flooding ever again?

Great post Lou! The sad thing is that anybody who gives a truthful answer to your rhetorical questions would be labeled a racist, right wing robot.

I delivered to a flood site in Cedar Rapids. What I saw were people helping people. Volunteers, temp labor and paid pros doing what needed to be done.

Read about the 1997 Grand Forks flood. A city that not only was flooded but burned. A city that united under the leadership of mayor Pat Owens, survived and rebuilt. Sure they received Federal assistance, but they didn't stand around waiting for it.

Iowa: "Here... let me help you fish. You can have some of mine."
New Orleans: "The fish is mine! The doggone fish is mine!"

As simple as the state of mine.

I had the same impression last week when I was in Iowa and Wisconsin. The devastation was heartbreaking, but all I saw were people pitching in and helping everyone.

Well, It's just like earlier this year when it looked like our house was going to flood. We packed up everything we could of value in the car and left. We didn't sit around and wait for someone to tell us what to do. The water went down and we didn't get flooded.

You can tell a flood or hurricane is coming for a couple of days. That is plenty of time to get out.

There are some people who depend solely on the government and have all their lives. They live off of welfare, food stamps, and in government housing. They have gotten where they can't even think for themselves, and if they could they would be to lazy to do anything.

What we have in Canada now is what I call generational welfare children....thier parents and grandparents worked the system and thats all these kids know...They quit school, they have babies and they think this is normal! Why work for 8 bucks an hour when welfare with dental and clothing allowance pays 7 bucks an hour.

Back in 1990 I took a boat in fishing trip in Ontario. We fished out of the French River Lodge on the French River. I hired a guide for the first day of the trip to cut down on my "learning curve" so I would not waste the entire trip learning the "spots" The guide worked for GM at the time and made good money. He called in sick to guide me. He said that even though he made almost double what I paid him at GM he would come out ahead by working under the table for me. He spent a good bit of the day ragging on the welfare mentallity in Canada. He could not understand why hard work was punished and laziness rewarded. His words, not mine. Layoutshooter

This has been going on in the states for years.

I know of a few third and fourth generation welfare people, the Detroit area still has a lot of them around. One of the girls I went to school with finally got off of welfare but there is a catch you will read later on. Her oldest (out of 5 with 5 different fathers) just graduated but her grandkids are being covered by welfare (like mother, like daughters, will be like grandkids). Throughout her life, she has never had one job, however she has a degree in something which we paid for, she has additional training in two different areas, and to beat all, she will still continue to live in subsidized housing for the rest of her life due to the little known thing that because she is institutionalized to her present condition by us, the people who gave her the help to sit on her a** and do nothing for so many years - we can't surely expect to live on their own. Her sister, who has followed in her footsteps ended up living who knows where and her parents (who are in the late 70's) are raising her kids because she is incapable of simple reasoning, like don't put the newspaper on the stove while it is lit.

Greq, I think that the Feds tested out the new Socialist/Welfare state in Detroit to see if it would work. It did, they got what they were after. A bunch of slave that they could control. Yessa Massa, gives me my's check, Massa. Don't you just love it? Layoutshooter
