When you've walked in my shoes, then you can justifiably critique my driving abilities driver!

Is'nt it amazing how many drivers out here want to drive your truck for you, or think they can. God forbid you delay them even a few seconds as you manuver your rig into a space, be it a dock or a parking space at a truckstop or rest area. How many times has that happened to you?

I have to laugh when I look at what they are driving as compared to my rig. Lets see, my 327" wheelbase verses their standard 266" (or less). My few inches shy of 80' overall length verses their 65-72 feet. BIG DIFFERENCE in how the two handle. If it were'nt that we own the T/T I would take great pleasure in turning the rig over to them and stand back and watch them make a total fool of themselves in front of every one.

How can I say that? Cause I know the ones b i t c h i n g on the radio have probably never driven a large car like mine. The rest have, and they get it.

Then there was a time in a past life that a dispatcher of ours that goes by the name of Debbie Lee chose to listen to a van (B-unit) driver over myself when I said my T/T could not go where the van driver said it could. Now I must ask, who would know better, the van driver that has never driven a rig the size of ours, or us who drive it everyday?

I just love the morons that want to drive my rig for me, especially when they don't have a clue!

I realize I have an apartment on wheels, but it should not come with the territory. Especially when I can put my rig in a tight hole faster than many drivers can put their smaller rig in an EASY hole. The point is: amazing how quickly SO MANY drivers out here are to critique one's backing or driving skills, simply because in their mind that driver is not moving quick enough to satisfy the moron. If it comes with the territory then the fact that I'm a deck hauler means I don't know how to back a T/T rig up because we NEVER bump docks. My over twenty years of dry vans and reefers bumping docks proves otherwise to those idiots.

We learned VERY quickly when we owned our DR-unit, if you back down in the hole, some idiot bobtail will block you in without asking if its ok. So we just stayed forward. At night most though we were just another T/T. LOL

Why not turn off the CB while parking

The CB radio may end up being your safety net (especially at night) when backing into a tight hole. Many times a professional driver sitting in a vantage point will help by watching your back and reporting information to you on the cb. Two sets of eyes are ALWAYS better than one. Many times my wife or I will get out of the truck with one of our walkie talkies and radio guidance up to the other via the cb. Thats how we INSURE no backing accidents in especially tight places.

The morons don't rattle me on the cb like some, instead their stupidity gives me a chuckle for the day. If they really get stupid and approach the truck, I simply introduce them to my 2.5' chrome plated breaker bar. You would'nt want to connect with that! LOL

Not saying that their crap is bothering me. Personally I get a kick out of it. I was just making an obsevation of what I'm sure many on this forum have also dealt with. Thought there may be some good stories to be told by some of the rest of the community here. Maybe we could get some laughs!

I certainly botched many an easy back and delayed more than a few drivers in my early days of driving. Thankfully, back then drivers had more patience and consideration for one another. Today when another driver does the same to me, I remind myself of my early days, and I sit and patiently and wait until I can pass.

What really amazes me is watching the very one that just B I T C H E D me out go down the line and botch a perfectly easy back in space. Has happened more than once. How does it go, before you cast the first stone...?

Steve, since we are to long for most spaces in the truckstops and end up sticking out to far or taking up two back to back spaces, we rarely park at a truckstop. Rather we stay at the airports and engine shops we serve.

If you have a good truck, you should expect some of this crap from people.

Many look at you and think "that SOB must be raking in the money... I get crapped on every turn by dispatch ..."

My poorly written point is ... they are jealous of you.

I sometimes get the same thing, as I mentioned with the parking but there are other times these guys think I'm making 10k a week with all of this special stuff I do.

On my very first attempt at backing a TT into a dock, I nailed it perfectly. I was really strutting until I realized I forgot to open the doors on the trailer. I pulled out, opened the doors, and after 5 or 6 more attempts, I got it back to the dock. That was humbling!

I understood why you parked there, but not how you angled in. But hey, no one is perfect. Even my straight truck moves funny backwards at times. Nice rig you have though. If you had come back sooner I would have said hello. I suspected it was you.

Yea, I was actually headed to the other end to park near the Sothern Pride truck. At the last second changed my mind to back into the spot near you. had a bad set up to begin with but did not want to go around again to get a proper set up for the hole. Had another T/T coming around and did'nt want to loose the spot to him/her. Anyway I got it in without hitting the fence, taking your hoood off, and with only three pull ups! LOL
