now if you average of say .80 ALL miles, you'd gross $104,000 x4 =$416,000 gross from a $50,000 investment..If it makes it 4 years/500K I would be surprised if it gets $2500 - $4000

This week's Bambi problem could have forced me to replace my current low top van, but it is to be fixed.
That said, when should a smart vanner replace his/her van? I know I'm missing out on some freight by not being Sprinter height, but how much?
The current van is in pretty good shape, except for a tick in the area of cylinder #8. It's a 4.6, with 357k on it and has been maintained well but not perfectly. The tick sounds like a lifter issue and is fairly quiet except for the first 3 seconds of running. It has one awesome feature: it's paid off .
Wise ones, what say you?
that should be U.S. dollars..... .80 a Kilometer would be a lot better money...now if you average of say .80 ALL miles, you'd gross $104,000 x4 =$416,000 gross from a $50,000 investment..If it makes it 4 years/500K I would be surprised if it gets $2500 - $4000

When should a "smart vanner ", replace their van? A smart vanner will not. IMO.
Have your lifters adjusted see if that solves the problem. If it's a GM the lifter studs are pressed in and maybe they are backing out. I had that happen on a new GM crate engine, replaced under warranty.
Your monthly payment that you no longer have can go into repairs until it is top notch shape. Even replacing the engine if need to.
Don't worry about missing loads because of "Sprinter " type loads. Most of mine are cargo van loads with a few long and tall throwed in.

Let's see.... ummm who pays .90 now?Replace it immediately if you want to make American wages. Last I checked carriers are now requesting 2015 and newer. Haven't found any carriers that will allow a 06 Sprinter that pay .90-$1.05 a mile. So if your van is not grand fathered in and already on a fleet you're pretty much screwed and stuck with carriers that will pay .70 cents a mile to run a full size sprinter.
How many times do I have to remind you ..... too many people get wrapped up in the Loaded Mile Rate only .... remember it costs the same to run empty DH miles as loaded miles .... People need to operate on ALL Miles rate figures .... know your costs = knowing your Net profits....Let's see.... ummm who pays .90 now?
Panther? Nope
Bolt? Nope
PTL? Nope
Roadrunner? Nope
We are talking base rate?
Iam at a small carrier and never seen .70 yet... close tho and will probably happen...but Iam also a % guy...
Please enlighten me
I was not even addressing that portion the gentleman was talking about how much other carriers were paying. How many times do I have to remind you ..... too many people get wrapped up in the Loaded Mile Rate only .... remember it costs the same to run empty DH miles as loaded miles .... Last I checked bolt is paying .95-1.05. I also heard load one pays good but you have to get on a list and wait. PTL pays decent I hear but can't get you more then 1200-1400 miles a week but that was a while back when I talked to them. Panther was at .75-80 with surcharge. They don't give any special incentives or better pay for a sprinter, they treat you like a e 150 low top short wheel base 1500 lb capacity van
