That is tough luck for sure. Unfortunatey, this anecdotal story is probably being played out in multiple locales right now.

I really don't think your alone. Too many jump in under capitalized. Happens frequently in other businesses as well. Your situation is a testimonial as to why I advocate having at least 10k or better in reserves before one even thinks of buying a truck and jumping in. That is AFTER you have purchased the truck.

We do not know the whole story .
from what we can know :
he is an Expediter for way more then a year , a solo St.truck,
an EO member for more then 2 years , so probably did a long research.
live in FL - a black hole , so we do not know how often he will be OOS just to go home.
maybe in the time that he got the truck, having a truck payments for a solo Expediter was a common practice ?

at any case it is a same that carriers are running us out of business .
7,000 $ in repairs bills , for more then a year in service ?
should not be a problem .
only a short time ago ,Expedite used to be a good source of income for a hard working Trucker .
maybe some of the carriers became too greedy ?
too many trucks ... and counting ...and counting...
don't know...
Look around , show me one carrier that can run a solo St. trucker happy to the bank any more.

I can't believe that someone out there would make fun of a driver having hard times by telling him/her to go back to school because they can't hardly read the story.

and then top it off using all caps.

Good luck driver!...I wish I had the answer or could help but it's going to get worse before it gets any better.

I think he was making fun!

Or maybe he should go back to school where he could learn to read past spelling and grammar errors as others have managed to do.

and maybe learn to push the Caps Lock button.

What do you want from your life if you can't write corectly???I can't undertand how that guy took his CDL...It's 2009 man not 1895....It's time to learn spelling ,using commas, dots ec.We are not animals.....

Nothing personal but I am not sure I would be so quick to judge other peoples writing.

Most likely, the OP is an immigrant or grew up in a non-English speaking household. English is tough to master as a second language. English can be tough to master as a first language as well. This hardly makes anyone an animal.

First and foremost, the OP is in a difficult spot. Compassion seems appropriate. Why kick anyone when they are down?

He just might be a fine individual. Surely, a fleet owner somewhere might want to inquire about his talents.

What you have is an over grown case of Murphy's Law,If it can go wrong it will. Almost sounds like what happened to me 25 years ago.Bought a truck,it was suppose to only have 100000 miles on a major ovehaul on the motor. The second load out,the motor blew up.It had a Cat motor, and at 100000 miles, the high price I paid for this used truck should have been well worth it.One problem,Cat shop when they took it apart, they said by looking at the bearings, could tell nothing had been done to that motor in at least 500000 miles.Went back to dealer, only wanted them to at least pay half of overhaul, ended up taking dealership to court. They must have bought my lawyer off, cause it never go to court, and I never got paid a dime. That same year,I had transmission rebuilt, both rear ends,The rear suspension had a call back, and the steering system did also,so those were free.It was 1984 and 1985,in that 1 year my 1979 COE Freightliner, became brand new,and my accountant was very happy as I had lots to write off,but the down time was a killer.I would have been much better off buying a brand new truck with higher payments, and what I learned was not to buy anyone elses head aches.
I feel for your pain, don't ever say nothing else can happen, cause in the trucking business,it can.

Yes Dave, you are correct, large cash reserves do increase your chances of making it, but it does not insure your success. We had over 3 months of both trucking and household reserves when we were forced out of business for 3 months when we had our box replaced. There is no way it should ever take 3 months for that repair, but as always, stuff happens. Now, reserves all but gone we, as many others, are not longer sitting pretty. I can promise you one thing though, if we make it through this scrape we will be thinking long and hard about running hurricane loads this year. It appears that the risks of those loads might not out weigh the rewards. I won't say that I would never run them again, I might have too, but it is a HUGE risk. I think I would want way more control over my truck OR have the parties that want that control to cover the additional risk. I don't want a repeat of last year. Layoutshooter

I agree. I would never say it guarantees anyone's success. But it would take care of the largest percentage of failures. Just a matter odds. With regards to your situation that I know nothing about, it does give me pause to mention truck insurance.
One might consider a rider policy for events of damage.
We have it on our trucks, and it is pretty reasonable if you shop it a bit. It can be bought for varying amounts and time.
It doesn't cover a breakdown like a blown engine, but it is another layer that keeps Murphy away. It can be set to cover all of your truck costs and then some depending on the amount you buy.

Please send me some info on that. We have been looking for better income insurance but can only find it in conjunction with a total policy. I need all the help I can get. Layoutshooter
