If you were working for an o/o and had the choice to take 60% and buy the fuel or take 40% and not buy the fuel what would you guys do, every situation is different but just trying to get some peoples opinions on what they would do personaly

also ive been reading some bad stuff about pantherii on this forum are they really that bad?

Has anyone had any bad experiences out on the road as far as crooks trying to break into the truck or trying to rob you? I was thinking of getting a baseball bat, knife , and mace, any opinions on that..thanks

40% and if your gona stay out for 2 weeks or longer at a time than owner pays DH back home also. Any shorter, owner should not bare this expense.

Saftey hmm park in well light safe areas, I will call a customer the day before delivery they will tell you right up front (DO NOT PARK HERE AT NIGHT ALONE). Be selective where you park if your senses tell you this may not be safe than take the feeling and move on.

I wish we could carry guns but uncle same seems to want to regulate when we pee let alone think I could be responsible on deciding when I should protect myself so I am at the mercy of my common sense so use it wisley.

thanks for the reply broom. Panther just recieved both my dads and my application they said they should have everything done by wednesday and then o/o will be calling us. Just wondering if you were looking for an o/o to drive for what stuff would you want in his pay package?
You said he should pay for dead head back home ( we plan to stay out 3-4 weeks then home for 5-6 days.
we also would want an automatic and probably an 84inch sleeper, also if we decide to pay the fuel we would want a generator because at a eo workshop they said when idling you burn 1 gal. of fuel an hour running the engine or 1pint of fuel an hour running off the generator.
are these request unreasonable? and can anyone think of anything else we should request? forum has been helpful thank you guys!!!

Your brand new, yes your asking alot. Prove yourself first than you can begin making demands. DH home though I would stand tall on since you are willing to stay out but not Texas to OH, keep it within reason 400 miles of home.

Your willing to work hard and remember you need to make the owner $ and if he does not take care of you once you build up a reputation you will have owners making you big offers.

Pay your dues and the benefits will be beneficial, be safe, use your head, two of you in a truck you will be safe just make it obvious that there are two in the truck and criminals will avoid you.

Since there will be two of you work the numbers on the split, and than make sure you have the cash not credit to pay out TWO months fuel bills, but for starters get a good feel of your owner first and how honest he is and if you trust him completely than begin paying the fuel.

=====================================================================

The greatest thing you can request is a contract that you understand. Misunderstandings with that make everything else seem secondary.
Are automatics and generators a reasonable request? For me, it would depend on your level of experience. For someone with no experience, it is a questionable investment from the owners point of view.
Why? Automatic transmissions are $10,000 and a decent generator setup are anywhere from $6,000 to $10,000.
If the shoe was on the other foot, would you make a investment of $16,000 to $20,000 on a unproven entity?

In my world, that is a huge gamble. For a owner that is going broke with a truck that is parked, he might be willing to gamble.
I like my odds at Vegas better. Watch your pay and statements! Demand a statement from the owner and the company.
Anything less usually is a sign of questionable practices.
In my personal situation and I am sure many others, what would my current drivers think if they observe me making questionable investments that may effect their futures?

Bottom line, get some experience and then market yourself to the decent owners.

yean not sure who u talked with at panterII but i called the one here in medina ohio and they told me they werent looking for drivers for o/o just looking for o/o right now i got my app in awhile ago and was cleared too drive for them just couldnt find anyone who could help me get a van
but got hooked up with a o/o who runs fed ex cc and starts on wed with his other driver. as for carrying knives bats or mace i would watch it cause it might be consider a concealed weapon for the knives and the bat

but as for carrying a gun thats a no seeng how all the states have different rules and regulations about conceal and carry

but they should somehow make it possiable too carry a gun as a driver especially with some of these loads they have

Take the 40%, you never know what the fuel prices are going to do these days.

PantherII, not sure however their trucks are the ones you see parked at truck stops all over the country.

As for the safety part, use your common senses. If it looks or feels bad, move someplace else. I've moved from a truck stop out to the freeway rest stop 15 miles back from where I needed to be, due to unsafe conditions.

Hey Panther11: If you are working for Panther you had better not get a gun for protection. To many Canada runs from them. And you had better ever never get caught taking a gun in to Canada. The solution for protection from the SUB-Humans is a good ole can of starting fluid.Which you probably already have in your truck. And is also legal to carry. The ether will put that TRASH right to sleep.

i had a load in alabama out in the middle of nowhere one night, i had trouble finding the place so i stopped to ask someone, they told me where the place was and i went and found it totally dark no one around, i mean really dark, i felt a bad feeling so i went back to the town and sleep at wallyworld. next morning went to make the drop and passed a roadblock then saw guys with machine guns and bloodhounds, they said 8 guys escaped the prison right down the road that night then i remembered the guy giving me the dir. saying it was by a prison. yeah i would have looked like a taxi out there idling. since then i live by the words of Charleston Heston.
