2161 miles round trip (Cleveland to Ocala and back).
"20 hrs" each way to deliver a queen size mattress, box spring, metal frame and then come back home (Cleveland) empty.
driving my Ford Ranger.
Fuel being paid for by consignee (my friend).
What would your FAIR cash compensation be??
Thanks,
Carl

Wow, never seen this scenario in all our 300,000+ posts...LOL!

Okay - it's not freight - it's a friendship. Right?

Even if you just were compensated with fuel, food and a few hotels, that cost would exceed the value of what you are hauling. Unless it is a collectable and rare mattress. ;)

It would cheaper just to buy another set in Florida. IMHO

30 cents a mile.

Because that is the amount that you could make if you were working a regular job for 40 hours.

What does it cost you per mile to run your Ranger? Fuel is covered so forget that. You are using about half an oil change for the trip. You may do your own fairly cheaply. I get mine done so that's $20. You are using up say 2.5% of a set of tires. That's $15. You've got brakes, belts, hoses, etc. etc. etc. as well. I'd figure the actual cost is around a hundred bucks or so. If it's for a friend and you're willing to donate the time then maybe ask for that or $150 to cover burgers along the way. I'm guessing you get about 21-22mpg so it's a hundred gallons of fuel for another $275 or so which would put it around $400 for them to get the stuff there. Good luck working/figuring it all out.

Yes, hauling a friend's freight - LOL.
Probably will sleep in the truck at a walmart in Knoxville.
No, its not an antuque set - LOL.
He has it in storage up here.
Yes, it would be cheaper for him to buy new down there - but it's his idea...

Just a thought, are you going to spend anytime at their home when you get there? If so would they charge you for room and board. It's a friend, I would personally do it for the cost of fuel and not much more.

Seeing how he wants that matress set .I would guess it has some sentimental meaning to it Wink Wink.Sure must be worth it to him when he could buy a new set cheaper .

Unless u are bored, whatever u think he can pay , ask him, but I wouldnt do it for less then 500 bucks in my van,,my fuel rnd trip is 372 bucks, so 500 is cheap, not counting meals and such, the other answers that said, sell and buy when he gets there are very good answers...........technically , it aint worth hauling for me.........

I wouldn't charge him anything but your fuel, hotel room down one back and the cost of your meals.

Why not load it in your straight truck and find some freight that's going down there down that'll pay the bills at the same time? Just a thought.

it depends how good a friend, I would just charge him expenses, food fuel and motels, tough sleeping in a pick up truck, and maybe 200 bucks for my time away from work
