I actually have 2 vehicles but this poll only allows for one answer (discriminating). Have Sprinter and a flatdeck st. With the slowdown the st has done a bit better than the sprinter as most of the loads pay better even with low mileage for the runs.

We have all Freightliners with 4 having 3126 Cat motors and one with an 8.3 Cummins. All but one has Condo sleepers. Integrity Motor Freight has 10 trucks which 8 of them are Freightliner trucks and 2 are Kenworths. One Kenworth is a W900 and the other is a D-unit with a refer box. Out of all the truck I manage 13 have Cat motors and 2 have the 8.3 Cummins in them. My 1st truck had a 5.9 Cummins which was a great motor. Over the years I have tried to stay away from Cummins because there Parts COST way to much. So I have stayed with the 3126 Cat.

Cummins reman fuel pump $2900.00
Cat brand new fuel pump $359.00

I will take a Cat over a Cummins because of the part cost.

Dave,
You talking about the injection pump, right? My lift pump was $350 and the trade off is the other parts and parts availability, Some Cat parts are getting harder to find for some reason for that 3126 and rebuilding them is a lot more than my little 8.3.

FL70 Cummins ISC spicer 6+1 non-syncro trans - a truck driver's trans.

20th year of expediting. first year drove a straight truck as a company driver. 19 plus in cargo vans. Now on 5th van, 1 Dodge, 2 Ford Diesels, 1 Chevy now a Ford Gas. 3 one tons, 2 3/4 tons. Over 450000 each on the first 4. No tickets, no accidents (2 deer) many breakdowns. Pick a lane, stay in it. Keep a reasonable distance from the vehicle in front of you. Get an XM. I stay away from truck stops, since the most, not all, the guys are either *****ing about their company, or lying about their loads/experiences. I have not been taking my notebook with me but might start. I have started spending more time checking out EO and for the most part enjoy reading the experiences and advice from others.

I had a 2005 HINO with a 76" sleeper that had a few perks. Just traded it in for a '09 with a 96" custom sleeper that has an office. Instead of having a sink & all that stuff, I have a mini office in its place with a small desk, shelves, built in file cabinets. Now I'm able to run my fleet and drive team with hubby.

I totally agree with you, Greg.I had 2 trucks with the 8.3, one mechanical, the other electronic.I loved them to death, and that is the only engine I would get in another straight truck.I also had a 3126 cat, and to say it was an expensive engine to fix would be an understatement. The water pump on a 8.3 Was so easy to change.3 bolts, one o-ring.And 109.00 at Cummins. But the Cat water pump,250.00,6 hours labor at Freightliner.I wasnt about to do the Cat waterpump myself. But the Cummins is so user and mechanic freindly. There is an old saying that the old timers would use,"a Cat wont break down much, but when it does, it'll cost you" I'm not saying a Cat is a bad engine. My 3126 had 820,000 on it when I sold it, and it is still going strong, unopened.Good luck on the cutaway van, Greg.My train of thought was on the same kind of vehicle in addition to the van soon.
