What kind of forums do you want?

Hi everyone,

As you've all noticed, we've been adding new forums and conferences. I just wanted to post a quick note and ask what you, the members, would like to see.

Currently we're planning an Electronics forum, a Sports forum, and possibly others. Would these interest you? What else?

We need to know what kind of things you want to talk about!

Thanks,

This is alittle off the topic, but maybe change the forum layout to other forms like a .asp layout.

I wouldn't mind seeing other forum topics up here. Electronics is a pretty good one, i'd probably be active in that being the geek i am. Sports, who doesnt like to talk about sports. What i was thinking would maybe be a good topic is a "Spotted" forum, in there maybe post something along the lines of either EO members you seen drive by, or maybe just say something like "Spoted Nice Panther II truck number 37765 all chrome even box..ect." We do it on a couple car forums i belong to in the local area, not sure how nation wide would work.

If i think of anything else i will post...

I prefered the old days when we had the general and the newbies forum. I am happy that the growth of EO continues and the other forums are part of that.
With that said thank you for the soap box forum.

Dreamer, & of course, the rest of the Mod Squad: I like it! Electronics is a good choice, I wouldn't have to hear my son in law the cybergenius laughing when I ask questions, lol. People who have knowledge sharing with others is a GOOD thing, a real win-win situation. And I like Unorthodox's suggestion for a "Spotted" forum -I bet we'd all be checking to see if we made that one!
And now a word on behalf of our sponsors: If you're planning to be at the Expo, why not sign up to help out for a few hours? It's such a small thing to ask for all we get from EO...:)

I´d like to see a "better way" forum. I´m talking about a better way to do something, whether related to trucking, life on the road, or just how to do some common thing we all experience better. I see innovation on and off the road all the time. So, why not share the new idea or ideas.

i have given this alot of though and have a few ideal's on couple of new forums

1. money saving tips places that give a discount or what discounts to ask for or how to apply for, my mom say always said if someone is going to give you a break be sure to ask for it

2. a forum guide to great places to eat and things to do if stuck somewhere for the weekend or holiday, and are they truck friendly

3. if there is some festival coming up in your hood and you think someone like to see it or if they knew about it could plan ahead for it, in hampton roads area we have habor festive in june every year they have great music, great food

also provide the phone numbers or web site info to find out more about it/

could call it geo's forum for stuck for the weekend
or eo travel and rest guide forum

Where, when and how to save money is always good information to have. I'm not sure we have a specific spot for that. It could be placed in the forum it applies to like fuel/tires/maint discounts in truck talk and hotel/food/etc. discounts in the layover lounge.

Your second idea is what the layover lounge forum was created for. It's the place to post about somewhere you've been that you think everyone should definitely check out as well as ones to definitely avoid.

Having advance notice on things to do, especially for the weekend is a good idea. Some of that info is included in the layover lounge but not a whole lot. If it were separate it would be easier to find and see what's going on. Maybe if we set it up as a separate forum it could be tied into a calendar with each item showing up on the calendar for the proper date(s). It could evolve into a huge project though, depending on what's included. For instance, if the hamfests were included for the members who have or are pursuing their ham license that would be over 100 entries for a year. It might even be possible to link from the calendar to a website for a specific event, like the Indy 500 or Coca Cola 600, etc. but again including all the races in all the classes would be huge. That's all more complex web design than I know about but maybe one of the web design gurus will chime in on that.

What's so different about independant expediters that they need their own forum? And, you're going to talk to the 3 or 4 others on here that run their own freight? Be a little realistic here.

I think the idea on money saving tips would be really great. Cant wait to see that forum. Had some ideas we where going to post on the "View" but will wait and see what happens here.

Have a question, I have noticed every time but once (I think last time) I start a Post on $ ideas or debt (reduction) the Post sinks like a boat anchor. Just my observation, it can be researched as the posts have had NO Response from members.

I find that a little discouraging, I mean what are we out here for? I do not care to be right where I am at five years from now, I want more in savings for the fruit of my labor, my house paid for, my plan is to go forward and to hopefully see others do the same.

So my question is would a finanail Forum really be utilized?

Maybee at the EO confrence one or two finacial speakers on the basics of running a business and keeping the profits, instead of giving back to the IOU and building a net worth would be a topic of intrest.

Sports would be a great one! We need someone who follows NASCAR (NOT ME) my love is Baseball as long as the Yankees are in Second and Football as long as the Seahawks loose the first playoff game, to the Lions, and than the Panthers finish them off.

What, did I hear something about the Lions winning something?... Oh, just my wishful thinking again..

Seriously though, an electronics forum would be great. In my messing with chicken lights, CB's, and sound systems, I've learned some what-not-to-do's that I wouldn't mind sharing.

Greg,
When my daughter moved home after college her bunny accompanied her. His name is Bucky. He is a soft and fuzzy Holland Lop. If you are interested I will throw in his cage and a Crock Pot.

I think the Forum idea about electronics is a good idea... There's one topic nobody seemed to mention and that is the "SOLO DRIVER". While there's a good many that team on here, and many more husband/wife teams are sprouting up - there are still solo drivers on these boards - and I think it'd be nice for them to have a place to talk amongst themselves - give them a "rest stop" of their own... Single Minds or Solo Minded Drivers or somethin'. There's already a forum for side trips and stuff goin' on... but it's not been given enough attention because so many flock to General Expediting, Truck Talk, and Newbies Forums. Perhaps to draw more attention to other boards a scrolling message could be put in place... example- in the Truck Talk Forum you'll want to have a scrolling message about the Tax Tips forum, not so much layover lounge. Why? because chances are if you're in Truck Talk you're concerned about money and easier ways to do things and money saving as well. General Expediting Forum could have a message about 2 forums... Layover Lounge and Newbies Forum. Why? because you might be a new driver to the site and the biz, and/or you might be a driver just browsing the site and lookin' to kill some time as well as good tips and advice, and there's always good tips and advice in General Expediting and the Newbies Forum. Layover Lounge is the place to post about side trips and shortcuts, good truck stops and pit stops in general.

I don't see a great need for more forums... EO doesn't seem to be broken, so don't add new stuff - just modify the existing. Electronics would be the only new board I could see being of assistance. I will say that Layover Lounge has a title that makes one wonder - perhaps a change in title of that Forum could give it more activity? Maybe "Road Bits" or somethin' along those lines. The site is fine to me. The forums are fine to me as well. That old saying comes to mind, if it's not broke, don't fix it.
Well, that's my 2 cents.
Electronics Forum yes, anything else? it's already here on EO... you just gotta look.

I think we should have a forum for all the posters who want to whine, withdraw from the forum, or get way bent out of shape arguing by forum posts. A place where they could talk to each other, like the new cuddly bunny forum. It could be called THE LOADING DORK.
