Thanks for the replies on our other post..
We need to know what exactly would a class 8 straight truck be. We figure something like a Hino or a M2 would be class 7. We are in a Freightliner Century with a single axle. Is this a class 7 or 8?

Class 8 refers to the heaviest duty chassis like the Century, T600 etc. trucks whether single or double axle.

Vehicles in class 7 and above require a commercial driver's license to operate in the United States.

Class 7
Their GVWR ranges from 26,001-33,000 lbs.

Class 8
The Class 8 truck GVWR is anything above 33,000 lbs.

This is what I thought to be the way you determine the classes. I found this info online under truck classifications.

I am sure your Century is a class 8. (Which, btw, looks great in your picture).

Not really. When expediters talk about a class 8 we are talking about engine, and heavier duty components that are common on tractors. As an example you can set up a class 7 Hino with a drop axel and have the gross be over 33K.

A truck with a steer axle and a single drive axle is limited to 33k, not because it's a class 7 but because in most states that's the max legal weight on 2 axles. I own 2 class 8 trucks that are 33k trucks because they are 6 wheel trucks. They are on the same heavy duty chassis with a full size engine as an OTR tractor. That's the differentiation. The size of the chassis and components, not the gvw.
