What if Rep. Joe Salazar (D, CO) Were GOP?

We all remember what happened to MO Candidate Todd Akin after he made the "legitimate rape" comment. Suppose someone in the GOP had said this:
“It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles. Because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop around at somebody.”

CO Democrat: Even if you feel like you might get raped, you may not, so no guns for you « Hot Air
Just another legislation proposal from the "we know what's best for you" party, since Salazar seems to think young college-aged women don't have the ability to think for themselves or evaluate whether or not they're being threatened. But so what?...Doesn't it sound reasonable to ask your attacker to stop tearing off your clothes so you can go look for an emergency call box?

While we're at it, let's not forget the number of students of both sexes that get robbed and/or mugged by armed thugs on college campuses and adjoining residential areas each year.

BTW - notice how much attention this nonsense has received from the MSM?

It's ridiculous, I'll give you that, but it's hardly in the same league as the legitimate rape comments. It is, however, in the same ridiculous league as the North Carolina Republican who wants to criminalize "nip slips," stating that if there is a chance of a nip slip, women should wear pasties or duct tape to ensure it doesn't happen.

They are all ridiculous in that they show a severe lack of any real thought.

It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles.

Is he talking about highway call boxes that are there for stranded motorists?

Safe zones? Like a school?

Whistles? I think the sound of gun shots might drown that out.

Quite the imagination.

Well, the headline says that the buffoon apologized today but like most politicians it was hardly an apology.

Colorado lawmaker Joe Salazar issues apology over rape remark

The freshman lawmaker from Thornton apologized Monday, agreeing his comment was inartful but saying he's not the "boorish, macho, Neanderthal Latino" conservatives are making him out to be.

I'm pretty sure that if Salazar were an experienced Senator in the middle of a highly publicized election battle when he made that idiotic remark, it absolutely would be all over the MSM.
BTW: since when is 'inartful' a synonym for wrong?!
Since Mitt Romney described his remarks on the 47% as "inelegant"? Which I'm pretty sure he had confused with 'ineloquent', but no one noticed, lol.

Don't forget Bush. Mitt and Bush. That's all the left has.

When the subject is using a word that doesn't mean what the speaker is trying to convey, or wants to appear to be trying to convey, then, yes, it does.
Romney's use of the word 'inelegant' [and I am positive he confused elegant with eloquent, lol] to explain his outrageous remarks was a classic case of attempting to take one's foot out of the mouth, and succeeding in getting the other foot in there with it.
If there is an 'elegant' way to say "I regret having characterized half the citizens I'd like to represent as moochers", I'd sure like to hear it.

Eloquent speech is employing powerful, forceful and persuasive language. Elegant speech is using refined, tasteful speech. Romney's words were certainly eloquent, albeit not very elegant.

You know, this jackball reminds me of a joke I heard. A convict escapes from prison and breaks into a house to lay low for a while, taking the young couple inside hostage. He ties them both up. Then he whispers something to the woman and leaves the room.
The husband says to his wife, "Honey, this vicious criminal's been locked up away from women for so long...he's probably going to try to rape you. We stand a much better chance of getting out of this alive if we cooperate. So what do you say you take one for the team, honey? Just relax and it'll all be over before you know it."
"Funny you should say that," she says. "Right before he left the room, he whispered to me that he's gay, and he's going into the bathroom to get some Vaseline. So how about you take one for the team, honey? If you relax, it'll all be over before you know it."
So I'd like to hear what this jackball Salazar would have to say if he were being stalked by a raping thug some night. "Run to the safe zone, Joe! You'll be safe in the safe zone! Blow your whistle! Go to the call box!"
No, if that happens, Jackball Joe is GOING TO WANT A GUN, like so many leftist, anti-gun hypocrites who want to disarm YOU and ME, but have a gun for themselves and use it when their home is broken into. Then safe zones aren't safe enough for them.
Until then, and as long as it's happening to a mere mundane and not them or their wife or daughter, it's a matter of believing that a woman raped in an alley and strangled with her own pantyhose is morally superior to a woman, alive & well, with a gun in her purse.

You do realize that the context of his comments were regarding conceal & carry on a college campus, right?

"Tag, you're it!"
"Nuh uh! I'm in the safe zone!"

"Don't scream. I'm gonna give it to you how you like it!"
"You can't rape me! I'm in the safe zone!"

I wonder if Joe Salazar likes chocolate chip cookies with his pudding.

The term "safe zone" has a special meaning on a college campus. It's a term which Salazar and apparently quite a few others are thoroughly unaware. Project Safe Zone is safety, advocacy and tolerance program whereby spaces and places are designated and set aside where gays, lesbians, bi-sexuals and transgendered type peoples can hang out and be free from harm, including snides, sneers, and other self-esteem destroying and feelings-crushing attacks.

No, I didn't. I wish I made it up, but you just can't make something like that up.

It does, however, put Hawk's comments in a completely new light. :D

I was vaguely aware of this "project", but thought it was related to locations with the "Safe Place" stickers where runaways are supposed to seek shelter. Nothing like enlightenment, especially when it comes to finding out what your kids in college are experiencing in exchange for $20-$30K per year you're paying for tuition. The following comes from the website of the Multicultural Center at Ohio State U. (emphasis added)
A Safe Zone sticker or magnet signifies that the occupant of that space has chosen to educate themselves about gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer issues...
It also means that they have dedicated themselves to providing support and a safe learning environment where homophobia, heterosexism and transphobia will not be tolerated.

It only takes a minute to click on the link and read the whole 1-page statement, and I for one found it to be very educational. This should prove that anyone who doesn't visit the Soapbox occasionally just doesn't know what they're missing.
