What I Learned at EO University...

First, I want to thank Lawrence McCord and the EO staff, and forum for presenting the workshop at Monroe Michigan, yesterday. This was a class act, and I learned much. The Marcu's gave a wonderful presntation, and you could see they are blessed to have each other. Got to speak with some finance people and recruiters, also, but perhaps for me the most important speaker for me was Mr. Coneally with the truck spec workshop. And this was very good. What I realized was that with what I can afford to spend for a truck, and the projected rate of return as a Solo D owner operator, and having talked with others about the projected CPM cost for an older truck, this would be a marginal operation. Low rates, the high cost of fuel, and a projected cost of 22-25 cpm for repairs, just seems to leave very little left before the tax man comes. I learned that what I can expect to earn as compared to what I'm earning now working 3 jobs; fast food, school bus driving, and lawn care, is just a toss up, but at least I'm home every night. Added to that, with my age, 65, and the associated aches and pains, for me, I see it as a no win situation. Once again I want to thank all who made this possible. Personally, I think you kept me from making a poor financial decision. God bless.

Best wishes to all

It is nice to see someone take an educational approach to this business. What is even better is they weighed their options and made.the choice that is right for them.

That's not the kind of story recruiters are looking for but as workshop victories go, you can be sure that everyone from EO who helped put on the workshop counts your story as a win.

There are two important reasons to attend an EO workshop (EO University):

1. To learn that expediting is for you.
2. To learn that expediting is not for you.

I have also been to a couple of the seminars and they are always good. Lawrence and his crew do a super job.
As for the profit margin in trucking, right now not many small businesses of any kind are doing very well. Until we get new leadership in this country they won't do any better. Right now everyone is just going from day to day. Trucking is a tough business for tough people who know the in's and out of the business. As with any business also takes a little luck and a lot of dedicated hours with no pay. Part of being independant. A trucking career is not all about money, its the freedom to do what one chooses with no one looking over his shoulder.
Your input about the classes and checking out the business end says a lot about you. Hopefully down the road you will reconsider, this industry needs more people like you.

Nick and Jenny do a great job. I enjoy their presentation and visiting with them as well.
