What happens when Texas becomes a blue state?

Recently, political pundits have been discussing the almost inevitable scenario where Texas, with its huge electoral vote, becomes a blue state; meaning the majority of Texans align themselves with the Democrat Party. Almost any comprehensive immigration reform or amnesty initiative would hasten the day when the Lone Star state goes blue, the effect of which practically assures the Democrats keeping the White House as far as the eye can see.

Even without immigration reforms, demographic trends happening in Texas do not portend well for the GOP. The GOP can no longer rely on Virginia, Florida or North Carolina to be dependable red states as multitudes of Northern liberals flee their failing states to take up residency in the South.

If the GOP cannot keep Texas in the fold, it fails to be a national party.

Texas is DECADES away from EVER going back to a Blue State......Period.

Ever since we got rid of Welfare Queen Ann Richards.......and put a True Conservative in her place....GW Bush.....Texas has experienced some of the Greatest Economic Growth ANY State in the whole US has ever experienced.......and there aint no way in HELL......WE......as a State....will ever go back to the Days of Ann Richards.

What you are talking about was probably a lead in story from some news source that believes Wendy Davis actually has a chance at becoming the next Governor of the Greatest State this country has...........

.......what is far from impressive is the continued mythology held by the national media regarding Texas. When I hear commentators on MSNBC talking about the state, it's clear that they are NOT familiar with Texans or Texas politics in the same intimate way that they know Florida, Virginia or New York.

It's true that the state of Texas is majority-minority, but it's also true that plenty of Hispanic voters (the ones that show up to vote) are solid Republicans.

I invite MSNBC to broadcast some shows from the great state of Texas. Come to cities like Austin and Houston, and meet some of your faithful audience members.

Brisco, I wish I shared your optimism. Don't underestimate the Democrats and Obama finding ways to empower illegal immigrants with the franchise. Amnesty in any form redounds to the benefit of Democrats.

Amnesty, or immigration reform, looks to be the major domestic social push of Obama's remaining time in office. Will Obama do this in incremental steps or one big move? The Obama administration have shown they have no compunction about using extraordinary means to achieve their goals. They aren't bound by the normal constraints of past administrations.

Again.......Texas going back "Blue" ........in my lifetime........is NOT going to happen. And I probably have a good 20 years left to live............

America as a whole has witnessed what happens under Democratic - Liberal - Progressiveness agendas and mindsets........Detroit.....Chicago.....DC.......CALIFORNIA.......as prime examples.....and I hate to say this this way.....But.....

While your comments above have an element of truth to them, it isn't necessarily the case that the factors you refer to will end up being the determinative factor.

Sadly, your comments are reflective of a widespread problem in the Republican party: blaming someone else for the condition one finds oneself in.

This, of course, is particularly ironic ... given that we are talking about the Republican Party.

It is also, by it's very nature, tremendously irresponsible ...

One can continue down that path, in a sort of sad, apathetic frame of mind ... endlessly bemoaning the unfairness of it all ... thoroughly pickled in the Koolaid of how it's the Republicans that are the "good guys" and the Dems are utterly evil ...

The same can be said in ANY state that is infested with ANY flavor of boneheads. There is no tolerance for anything other than left wing wackos in Detroit and SE Michigan in general. Normal people there have to remain "closeted" to even hope to live a life without fear.
