What do you need to know before you sign on w/ a carrier?

I'm beginning work on a piece for EO regarding the questions folks should be asking recruiters before they sign on. So, what of it? What are the things you need to know that you didn't know you needed to know?

There are actually a lot of good threads in the Newbie section of the forum, most of them would be a great foundation for any article. But again I would also add this - go through the process.
