Without being rude, you're probably udercapitalized and not really ready to do this.
If the truck was in your driveway, how much working capital do you really have ?

Are you saying that you and the truck are in California and you can't find a company to lease on with? I'm not trying to be difficult but depending on where the punctuation goes it can change the meaning of your statement to mean a few different things. What kind of truck is it? What has caused the problems so far? Just location? Age of vehicle?

Trying to be polite i will tell you that you are going to get in WAY OVER TOUR HEAD hopefuly you havent bought the truck yet.
First you have too little cash available you are setting yourself up for heartache at best you will be out of business in a week considering you dont have a breakdown expect to drop at least one to two grand at the shop for minor repairs. If your running expect to buy arround two hundred pluss gallons of fuel, add grease, and make up fluids so you dont blow the motor or trans. Each mile each hour you run that truck will cost you money fuel, oil, tires, insurance etc. the higher the milage the more it will cost. Nearing 500,000 miles? You may be looking at an inframe at twelve grand pluss by the way how abbout your pay for driving. It sucks not pulling a pay check and just working for the truck after a couple weeks. If your married most women can't handel money out and nothing in.

A safe estimate at least one if not two months opperating expenses.
In the meantime do the math and figure out how much you need to charge to stay in business. Your best bet for now is try working for a carrier that has thier own trucks or local short haul company that pays weekly until you have more in the bankYou need to factor everything. Remember you want to run a business so work smart not just hard

The age of the truck will be an issue for the bigger carriers since they usually don't accept trucks over 10 years old. Have you seen the truck and taken it into a shop to have it tested? You could spend $3-4k just to get the truck checked out and fixed up to pass inspection. Depending on the amount of miles and maintenance you may have several major expenses coming up. I would pass on this deal and not worry about it, it just isn't the right time or place.

Very few of the carriers prominent on this site are going to take a truck that old. Most will only take a truck 5 years old of newer and then if it passes muster will keep it on beyond that point. I don't know of any carriers headquartered out west but there might be one.

If you find a small fairly independent carrier who will sign on a truck that old you are likely still going to have to attend orientation and get the truck set up with signage and/or satellite system. In an ideal world they would have an option to set the truck up at a location near you rather than having to drive to Ohio/Mich elsewhere.

There's still the matter of orientation. You'd likely have to attend that at the main office. You could possibly take a bus cheaper than driving the truck but that's iffy as well. You're just in a tougher location for this than if you were in the midwest. Good luck.

A post was removed for Administration review....

I didn't catch a personal insult in that post. However, AMonger is correct in stating that the OP's questions, as posted, would make a lot more sense if he used some semblance of proper pronunciation. Now, we're all truck drivers here; I don't expect anyone to be English-teacher perfect in their posts. But PLEASE people! use a few periods and commas where they're needed; you'll come off looking as intelligent as you really are. And yes, this can be done on a smartphone just as easily as it can on a computer. :)

There was no violation in that post.....other then bad manners.

I think making fun of a poster is well....bad....

the poster might have some sort of reading disability and tons of other reasons..lack of formal education....and to have it pointed out is well...just rude...IMO

All VERY good advice! I have sadly seen several drivers, truck and van, at trucks stops this year stranded with no money for repairs or gas or even food. If you don't have the proper capital to get started you are doomed to fail.

You are correct; no-one deserves to be publicly ridiculed.

However, this isn't the first time someone has posted a run-on post and left us readers to decipher his or her meaning. I'm just saying that it's a lot easier to read a post, and perhaps offer good advice to the poster, if you can clearly understand their post without it being a brainbuster.

As to the OP's question, he is getting WAAAY ahead of himself, IMHO. As to why he, in Michigan, is buying a truck that's located in California, there may be a logical explanation (maybe Grandpa is out there with a truck he no longer needs), but only Bigred can answer that. Just the same, I'm not convinced that he can afford to do this, nor that he's quite finished his homework. None of us want to see this guy crash & burn before he even gets started.

Myself, that's why I'm not an expediter yet. Even after lurking here for six years, I know I'm not financially ready to do it. Being a courier isn't much fun, but I'm home every night and can adapt to breakdowns, short cash, etc. If I were stuck in Laredo with a sick van right now, I'd be in a world of dudu.

Thank you....I do truly understand...it is hard to read, but without knowing the poster, who is to really know?.....to suggest or even infer "retarded" is just bad manners....
