Weird loads

Someone had asked about unusual loads in an earlier post. Monday I was in Canada waiting for a load. Beep!! Can you go into Detroit and look for a driver. He doesn't answer his phone or reply on his QC. Got a location went to Detroit, started driving around and looking. Found a van in Mickey D's. Went over to ask the driver if he had seen a van. Sure 'nuff it was him. He said he was tired and was sleeping. He looked like he was dead. Mission accomplished. I accepted a 100 mile load with 50 mile deadhead. Stupid? It got me to within 5 miles of home, where I am until Tues AM. I figured it was a good excuse to come home early. :+ :+

I was woke up one morning, while sleeping at the T/A in Lodi, by a dispatcher at Panther, who explained that they were looking for a tractor driver, and asked me if I would help them out. I was told I would get $50.00, and being the person I am, I said "sure, who am I looking for".

I drove the lot at the T/A and also checked the lot at the Pilot, and found nothing. I called dispatch, and let them know that my search turned up nothing. At that time, they told me that they found him and he was on his way. When I said something about getting a message sent to me on the Q/C about the $50.00, I was told, that I wouldn't be getting the $50.00 from Panther, and I should try to see if the driver I was SENT to look for, would pay me.

Moral to the story: If dispatch calls and asks for help, and it's not a load offer, make sure you tell dispatch to send the request over the Q/C, so there's a record of the request, and a record of your reply.

Hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend!

that just goes without saying mike.
anything to do with pay has to be put on the QC,or it just turns into a he said she said situation. and you know who is going to come up on the short end end of that deal. DD.

Is that really the way Panther works? Thank God I have not gone their road.
One of my ex drivers came from Panther and he ripped them pretty good but I assumed he just was a complainer type.
Why do folks stay with them if they carry on like that?

FECC used to get me up all the time to look for drivers who they could not contact before their delivery into the Ford plant at Lima Oh. I allways knew where they would be sleeping so it was a easy $50.00(They allways paid)

Was just wondering if you got $50 for finding the driver?? How far did you drive to find him, and did you get the "Stupid Load" after finding him or as part of the "Find the driver".. Most people in this business know that all things pertaining to money should be on the Qualcomm, and most of us found out by not having dispatch put it there one time. Dispatchers are human too, and do not always write everything down that is discussed on the phone. I also believe that all Carriers have incidents like that, not just Panther!:) :) :)

Have a good day,

I agree most have a problem here or there. I have been with three carriers and never5 had this problem with any of them. Lucky I guess.
I would think an offer as odd as the one mentioned here would be remembered. Maybe not. Just seems odd to me
