the same oldtired questions over and over again for a few weeks...it never fails, its like clock work...ban one, 3-5 more newbies with the same "stuff"....lol

Ever notice that after someone gets "banned", there is an "influx" of newbies doing exactly what Enemy stated above and also asking

They tend to be the same questions when the origin is from the same person.;)

I drive a van because I got tired of TT work after 20 years and over 2.4 million miles. Now I'm on a vacation at work and I'm taking another vacation on Sunday to Cabo for a week. Don't you just love this job

So Expediting in a van is not a real job?

No, to much fun. Then vanners spend to much time trying to figure out how to spell, (k)now what I'm sayin homey?

Some people in real trucks would be shocked to see what some vanners gross annually.

If "lowly vanners" did know more than the "dumb truck driver" types, then what are they doing in a "Van"?? ;)

Yes OVM, you are a "throw away" contract driver, plain and simple. It is much easier for a Carrier to replace a Cargo Van than it is for them to replace ST's and 18 wheelers. Less restrictions, less paperwork, lower costs to both them and the CV owners, and so on. CV's are a dime a dozen out there. If you don't want to accept their .72 cents a mile plus .12 cent surcharge rate, they could have you replaced within 3 days out of a pool of dozens of other "CV Owners" from all over the country that are willing to accept that rate.

This also relates to the "Courier-Delivery" type of services that are abundant here in heavily populated areas like DFW and such. Courier companies advertise looking for all types of vehicles. They are always looking for Economy Cars up to 28ft Box Trucks. They have a whole gammit of people applying for courier positions. Out of 50 applicants, 40 of 'em will be Economy Car drivers, thus leading to higher % percentage rates and better load offers to the ones that have the Cargo Vans, the little Box Trucks, and the big 28ft Box Trucks just so that they don't have to keep replacing them.

Same logic applies to trucking overall. There's more money to be made with larger load carrying vehicles, IE-Straight Trucks and TT's. So again, Cargo Vans in general are a dime a dozen. And if anyone thinks they "deserve" bigger truck rates, well....that's just ridiculous.

Learned long ago just where I am in the "food chain"...once a CV'er realizes this and deals with it, this job becomes a lot easier......The thing is in a sprinter there is a lower life form below me....LOL....

I realize that much of this place-in-food-chain talk is made in jest but not everyone may get the joke. While there are many ways to run an expediting business, is it wise to sort people into classes in expediting and rank them one over another? It seems to me that puts people down more than it lifts them up.

It is a fact of expediting Phil....TT's have a value over straights as straights have a value over CV's....One has to know their worth to the business....If ones expectations are too high and are always getting knocked down because that darned straight truck got loaded before you......what good does that do...It is easier and less stressful to know just where you stand.

I think Ken is joking somewhat with his comment but, we vanners are a special breed and maybe it would be good for more people getting into this field should start with a S/T. I can't believe I said that.:D When other expediters put us down, some are just a little jelous it's just that they haven't figured out how it's done.

Just a general example that may apply in certain circumstances:

A CV/Sprinter gets into KC and 3 straights unload there as well...Now the carrier wants to pay to move a couple of them say at .50 a mile...but WAIT a single skid CV load pops up paying .90 going back to a better area....Now whom do you think will get that load? It won't be the CV if I were a betting man...and IF the CV'er realized this they wouldn't hang around too long..they'd best beat a path 200 miles back to St Lewey.
