There are countless archived posts on this subject...Your profile says you are with Express-1. What have you been doing for a contract up to this point?

Get a lawyer who you can trust and who will watch out for you. Don't fall for the trap that it has to be a 'truckn lawyer', any good one that is willing to be frank and take the time to answer your first questions should work.

Mr. Katz is an E.O. moderator and an accountant. He may not be a lawyer, but he will certainly be Frank!

Maniac, we are not familiar with owners or contracts so no help there.

I would join OOIDA and have them look at any contracts I was considering signing. I would also procure the assistance of a truck accountant for guidance such as Frank.

When you find the truck you are looking for take it to a mechanic shop and ask them to go over the truck. Get an ECM readout and see how much idle time is on the truck and what the lifetime fuel mileage average is. Bob or Greg will give you the details on what to have them check. Let the shop know you're considering buying the truck and you need to know any mechanical problem.

Good Luck on your hunt! Doing the homework on the truck you are considering purchasing will make the future relationship with this truck much more pleasant and will make you that much more money.
