Wanting to get into expediting!!

Good Day to all!! My name is Allen,I've been driving for 8 years now and have been wanting to try expediting for about 2 yrs. I know that I don't want to jump all in and get my own truck or van. I know I have to start at the bottom again. I have worked for a construction equipment rental comapny for the past 3 years. Kinda ready for a change of, get away from the big city and ride the roads.And hopefully make more money. After driving for 8 years I haven't made over 42k. Should I make it into expediting?

aj1313 I will give the standard reply. Read Read Read all of the forums back as far as you can.

You will find that it is harder for a solo to make it in expediting and even harder for a solo, non O/O to make it in a van. Another thing you will find as you read is we are most often in the big cities as that is where the freight is!

I think after you read back through the forums you will be able to ask a more direct question that will be easier to get a reply to.

42k is pretty good money. If your looking to improve on that, don't even consider a cargo van. It's doable in a straight, but no guarantee. If your not unhappy doing what you're doing for 42k, you may want to consider sticking with it. Do you get benefits on top of that? If so, I'd say it's a no brainer. Stick with it!

Thanks for the posts!! I have read past topics. And the 42k wasn't with this company. It was a few years back. Thanks for the responses though! Keep on rolling!!

I'm still a newbie, been out here 6 months, if u think ur gonna get rich,,think again. I have a friend that's been out here 4 awhile now and I have used his experience to cut down on errors and wasting money on the road. Don,t play tourist and waste gas and money, get a generator and microwave to eat in ur van when u can. Eating out waste ur money,,say 6 bucks a meal to eat out times 3 a day times 30 days adds up quick.

Sleep all u can, ur gonna need it, but u will learn the hard way on that one. Get a GPS, I use a TOMTOM rebuilt 89 bucks. Build a simple bed frame behind ur front seat and take out the passenger front seat asap for room , ur gonna need it. I put a window unit 5000 in the van for cooling, for heat now I use a electric heater, but there are better units, but I cant afford the espar unit yet for heat, and read all the post here for new ideas is good too.
