I'm not having much luck finding the right Preowned D-unit. So I'm Going to ask the Experts. (YOU) What kind and where should I look for a good used Truck. I will be a solo driver, and I want to stay under $40K if possible.Want to keep truck payment to a minimum for being a solo driver. Engine Size? Trans? Rear?Good Miles? Sleeper? Box? Lift Gate? I need truck ASAP. Want to go to Orientation before Feb. I am signing with TS. Worked with them for about 16 months with cargo van. Retired and Hate it. I'm getting back into Expediting. I really missed it the past 14 months. Hope to get to meet some of you for coffee out there. Drive Safely....Butch:) :) :)

For a decent used D unit to run solo, I would look for something in the $40-50k range. I will guarantee you will be able to find and get into a used '00 or 01 class 8 unit in that price range, rather than spend $35-40 on a meager underpowered FL70 or the such. Did you check EO's classified section? There are a few prospects there. Don't be shy to call anyone with those ads, some have their trucks listed for way too much than they will ever get. I also saw on FYDA Freightliner's site the other day two used Centuries (D units) in the mid 400k mile range with condos, one had CAT and the other Detroit power, these would be 10 year million mile trucks, will proobably sell in the mid $40k range. Don't rush into anything, always have a mechanic check out your picks.

many years and the truck is in excellent condition and can
be had very reasonably... should have several hundred K miles

You might want to check with Jon Mosier at Freighliner of Knoxville. They are seriously into the expediting business and usually have a large number of units on hand in both class 7 and 8. He's a no BS guy and will treat you right. I got my truck from him and he'll be my truck guy from now on. Good luck.

Make sure you consider the length of time you want this particular truck. Keeping a truck for a short period(starter truck) or one that you want for several years will make a difference. As they say, look carefully before you leap.
