As a former restaurant manager, and a paying customer, when I see that happen, I absolutely hammer them over it. No mercy. And I won't do it quietly. I've done it half a dozen times in the last year alone, and looking at it from even my perspective, it's pretty brutal, it's something I would not want to be on the receiving end of. But I don't care. They're putting lives at risk, something they don't see when a customer comes down with explosive vomiting and projectile diarrhea (or is it projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea?). They don't have to deal with the consequences of that, so I make them deal with it right up front. No mercy for the incompetent, not when it comes to cross contamination and food born illness. The stories I could tell...

I am the same way turtle. When I witness this kind of stuff, I immediately ask for the manager and file a complaint in front of the offending party.

I'm usually loud enough that I don't have to ask for the manager, the manager comes out of whatever hole they're in all on their own. Imagine a really mad Al Sharpton, all hopped up on cocaine, coffee and steroids. Anyone within earshot gets a full-on clinic in food handling and cross contamination prevention procedures. I once had a manager tell me that there's no need to be so rude. I asked her for her address so that when one of her little overpaid incompetents gives me salmonella or e coli poisoning, I could come to her house and show her the real meaning of rude, all over her front porch.

Don't mess with my food. I'm tellin' ya. :D

As a restaurant manager, and then a district manager, this very issue was one of my training specialties. I know the deal, the lingo, the way it works and it supposed to work, and the fact that they are supposed to know this stuff cold, so they can't snow me on any of it. When I see someone not even using gloves properly, I know what else is going on behind that door, and I call them on it.

Turtle: I agree with you 1000%. My first career was 25 yrs in Food Service Mgmt, about half of that as a DM. I too, repeatedly find myself in the same position of teaching, coaching and correcting. Last week the facility I stopped at was so bad, I searched the Web for the local Health Department and shared with then a list of six concerns observed prior to walking out hungry. I would not eat there. To stay on top of things, I still maintain my Serve Safe Certification. Glad to hear others out there do the same thing and don't turn a "blind eye" to bad situations that could endanger themselves and the public in general.

I was also in food service, kinda sorta still am:rolleyes:
I used to have food handlers certification in California. Allowed me to teach the new employees.
Most don't even know how do wash their hands properly. We used to do the dye test with a black light to see how well they washed their hands.
And yes money is probably the dirtiest thing you can touch, besides your own face.
My biggest pet peave are the cooks who sweat in the food GROSS

Oh c'mon.. adds some salty seasoning and flavah! :D
It seems many employees get 'more' careless with gloves on, than they are without. It's almost like they think the gloves are to protect 'themselves', rather than the eating customer! If they changed gloves as religiously as they're supposed to (as often as they should be washing their hands), they'd cost a fortune for the owner.
Hey it's ok if I go and debone some raw chicken and then ring that customer in at the cash before I make your sandwich, isn't it? As long as I have gloves on!

Was Turtle says , its just gross and wrong....the fact that they are taught tested and certified by Serv Safe is required means they even KNOW BETTER...Those gloves are soo cheap and money soo dirty, there is just no excuse...yes i will call them on it, and depending on their attitude back, depends on how hard i push it ...but i have gone off load and every one knew what was goin on....

While i didn'g keep up my Serv Safe cert as Mygia did, that cross contamination is burnt into my head.....

I don't often eat in TS food offering of a alot of reason, but i do from time to time garb a few slices of pizza at the "J's"...oh well just one more place to avoid other then the fuel island, parking lot (to sleep) and showers....

Oh and 2 exits west on 65 is a real nice steak house, can't think of the name, but you can see it from 65...

Reminds of a sandwich shop in downtown toronto. As we waited in line to order we were curious about the guy making the sandwiches on the back counter as he kept doing this funny little dance which involved a lot of hand waving. We finally figured it out just before we got to the order point. He was waving away bugs and every so often would kill one and no gloves and kept making sandwiches. Needless to say we made some loud comments and promptly left. Place isn't there any more (luckily for others).

gracie went to the manager and told him. as she started with ....the lady behind the counter making pizza....and he hung his head and said..she is not changing her gloves, right? he didn't come out and do anything about it. then after that ladys shift was over the little blonde replacing her didn't wear any gloves.

i worked at panera for three years and it was drummed into the employees....if you touch something unclean change your gloves. busted a panera kid one day when he made a salad with no gloves. he said it was optional. i wrote panera directly. gloves at panera are not an option.

I can verify the Turtle's story on this one. I was there and quickly snapped this picture as he rushed the counter!!:D
