Victims of a Hit and Run driver

We made our delivery this morning and decided to stop at the Flying J in Kingman, AZ. After having breakfast we walked next door to K Mart to pick up some supplies. Upon returning to our truck we discovered we were the victims of a hit and run.
Someone hit our right front tire hard enough to turn the wheels from straight to full right turn.
We have some fiberglass damage on the hood (deep gouges), a little bend in the bumper, our mirrors were bent all the way in, all the lug nut covers were knocked off and the hub oil fill cap was knocked out. Driving, our steering wheel is now about 30 degrees off of being straight.
We are at a Petro waiting to get a full alignment and front end check to see if there are any damaged parts
Our insurance company says it will go under our collision deductable of $1000. So some idiot hitting us while we were shopping is going to cost us $1000. That doesn't seem fair, but I guess that's life.
The truck that hit us was described as a blue Freightliner Classic with a reefer (probably a spread axle) and California tags. The guy who saw him said he heard a loud bang and then saw him haulin a** out of the parking lot.
I guess it could have been worse. All the lights are intact and hopefully after the alignment it will be safely driveable.

I'm sure you thought of it but ask flying J if they have cameras. You might have to do it quick as alot of them are on a 24 hour loop

Unfortunately they did not have any cameras and no one got a tag number.

I think a police report is in order, not so much for the ins but for your records if your an independent carrier. The low life that hit you may run to the police and say you hit him and drove off but got your tag number, icc, vehicle discription, and if there's a paint exchange and another witness. He turns the tables,i would get your witness name, adrress, contact number.

I hope somehow you can track him/her down and make them pay about triple and maybe go to jail too.

That would suck, what a world.

You would think if someone heard the noise, noticed the truck. They would have motioned, to the driver or got his plate #. It is sad when people dont have the common courtesy to stop after having a fender bender.Of course it dont suprise me as it is common to watch evening news some where and there looking for someone who hit and run a person.I to agree a police report is in order.

Yes I agree always get a police report. Some years back about 1992 I was driving on snow covered I-5 in southern Oregon in the right hand lane going about 15 mph when a pickup truck came up and side swiped the left side of the trailer near the tires bounced off the trailer and he over corrected and hit the median divider wall got control back and kept going. I got on the cb radio said just got hit by the pickup and described it (Oregon State Police at that time monitor Cb radio 19} he got stopped in traffic about mile up the hill i caught up and got out and ran over to get his license plate number and then put it out on the cb radio and the state police got him stopped at the next rest area the trailer only had a few scratches and some rub marks on the tires a piece of his fender was stuck in the trailer frame but no real damage to the trailer.

We did make a police report, notified our carrier and insurance company.
The truck is now in the Freightliner dealer having the front end damage repaired. Serious alignment issues and a bent tie rod.
We have Progressive insurance through CIS (Commercial Insurance Soloutions and thought we would be paid $175 dollars a day down time while the truck is in the shop. When we asked about it we were told that the truck has to be in the shop for seven consecutive days before that kicks in. The funny thing is that the email that CIS sent us states "The policy includes $175 per day up to $5250 Downtime coverage if you vehicle is in an accident and can't be operated."
No where in that statement does it say anything about seven days.
We called CIS and were told that it would be somewhere in the insurance policy.
I feel that they misrepresented this coverage by not informing us of the seven day requirement.
If you have the same insurance beware of this deception.

Most policies have a time frame of somewhere between 7-10 days before down time pay kicks in.

Tell us more about that policy. When I was down for 3 months my policy maxed out at $4500. Do you have separate "down time" insurance or is it a rider on you main policy?

I was in the shop 3 days after an accident a couple of years ago, and my insurance through FDCC/Baldwin&Lyons paid for lost income all days from the first. I'd be really torqued off if my coverage made me be out of service a week before the benefit that is supposed to cover it kicked in.

This topic is a great example of why people really need to read their policies and compare companies, policies and rates before deciding on an insurer.... if some are way cheaper than most other policies... there are reasons! Make sure you know what they are! ('If it sounds too good to be true, blah blah'... and... 'you get what you pay for'!)
