Valley Forge National Historical Park

Free truck parking, free admission, free shuttle rides to the park's attractions, 30 miles of walking trails, bike rentals and five miles of bike trails, a museum, a historically-significant site -- all can be found at the Valley Forge National Historical Park.

The park is just 50 miles from the Bordentown, NJ truck stops and 45 miles from the Carneys Point, NJ Flying J (a bit longer if you route to avoid tolls), I encourage you to take the drive and spend a layover day there. You can get in a great day of walking, running, bike riding and seeing the sights, and then return to your truck stop to shower and sleep.

If you follow the park's directions to the main gate, the first thing you will see there is a "No Trucks" sign. Do not enter there. Turn right instead on PA-23 and drive to the next attraction, which is the George Washington Memorial Chapel. There is room to park a straight truck or bobtail tractor there. There is no charge to park, but a donation to the church that provides the space and your way in to a great day in a great park would be appropriate.

The shuttle bus stops at the chapel every fifteen minutes during the day on weekends, making it easy to get to the other attractions and return to your truck from anywhere else the bus stops.

If the weather is nice and you are laid over nearby for a weekend, this is a fantastic way to spend a full day out of the truck while remaining close to it. Having discovered this, Diane and I will be back for another day in the park, next time we are laid over in the area.
