Strong demand, short supply push retail prices for used trucks above $50,000

Truckers reeling from sticker shock when shopping for new trucks aren’t finding much relief in the used truck market, according to ACT Research.

“It’s a great time to be a used truck dealer,” said Steve Tam, vice president for the commercial vehicle sector at the Columbus, Ind.-based market research firm.

The average retail price of a used Class 8 tractor was 16 percent higher in April than a year ago, reaching $51,217, ACT said in its latest state of the industry report.

In comparison, retail prices for new Class 8 tractors are as high as $120,000.

but, but, but the drop in the dollar would be good for export sales...Caterpillar is doing great because of the low dollar...exports of high priced heavy equipment they have back orders out the kazoo....

Today the price of each commodity and service is increasing frequently and thus the prices of used trucks will also increase was expected.but 16% is little more than expected.

beside used vehicle price normally rise this time of a year do to the nice weather,
more so in commercial market, as for many rezones business wise, this is the best time of the year to buy equipment.
