US Express gets into Expediting

Our company was sent this in regards to US Express getting into expediting. I thought I would post this on EO for the van drivers to check out. I don't know if I'm putting this in the right spot as I'm new to posting on EO.

Hope this helps.

US Express is looking for CV and ST drivers.
They currently have some dedicated CV runs and are looking for the best the expeditor community has to offer. The anchor account is out of Tennessee and are looking for drivers from MI, TN or Northern Georgia. They pay $0.70 per loaded mile plus FSC. They expect vans to run 2200 to 2400 miles per week. They settle out weekly and do not require any satellite tracking. Vans must be model year 2008 or newer. They are only looking for 6 vans at the moment to support this customer and have a number of new opportunities coming online shortly for more CV’s and ST’s. If you know anyone that is interested please contact Sadina Smalley @ 423-510-3817

Don't get toooooo excited there. THIS is a dedicated freight with a schedule to meet - no expedited anything. US express isn't the only one doing this with vans and box trucks.

No wonder we're starving, and they will have no problem getting those six vans.

Depends on the real FSC being paid. If driver gets 100% of actual FSC in a regular cargo van that rate could be over 1.10 a mile. But, if a Bull Frog had wings he wouldn't bumb his butt everytime he jumped.

Exactly learned one....a flat rate FSC serves only the carrier..it has absolutely NO redeeming factors...that I can think of...

To bring this closer to factual than conjecture I spoke to the recruiter. The fsc for this week is 44cpm and that is the rate paid to vans as well as trucks. Combined with the sad 70cpm mileage pay it puts it into a decent pay range provided you are loaded most of both ways. Since I am not in the right area we only spoke about the fsc and kept it brief.

Hello, sure it has a redeeming factor...It cooks the books so you LQQK good. Say, and I know this as true,
YOU AS A SPRINTER, GET A LOAD TO TOLEDO FROM Memphis. You get .70 per mile + .19 in FSC, However, Express-1 gets total pay of over 1800 dollars. THAT is a BIG redeeming factor, for the carrier.

Considering the rates some carriers are charging for freight out of MI to TN, it's not that bad a deal, especially if it's regular trips. When 3PLs like USX put expedite loads out on a bid basis, it's not that unusual to see cargo van loads go for $1 per mile plus fsc. If the driver gets paid 65-70% of linehaul charge plus all of the fsc (which has been around 31% of the L/H chg) it about the same ballpark. Look at it this way - what are C/Vs getting paid for NLM moves? There is still a glut of vans in the industry - more supply than demand. I'll bet EFE was right - they got their six vans the first day the ad was out.

You are right in the ball park Pilgrim almost exactly what we get....NLM can be different depending on location and supply....I've seen it high and I've seen it low...NEVER been paid less then a buck out of Laredo for an NLM load...usually about $1.05-1.10..and that is hard to understand after hearing what rates some other drivers get....
