US Express gets into Expediting

Considering the rates some carriers are charging for freight out of MI to TN, it's not that bad a deal, especially if it's regular trips. When 3PLs like USX put expedite loads out on a bid basis, it's not that unusual to see cargo van loads go for $1 per mile plus fsc. If the driver gets paid 65-70% of linehaul charge plus all of the fsc (which has been around 31% of the L/H chg) it about the same ballpark. Look at it this way - what are C/Vs getting paid for NLM moves? There is still a glut of vans in the industry - more supply than demand. I'll bet EFE was right - they got their six vans the first day the ad was out.

Sure, it is not unusual to see a 1.00 per mile + FSC....But, what rate of the FSC? You folks that get 100% of the FSC are doing very good. Your carrier is not putting limits on your income. Some could see 1.40 per mile, I only see 1.20, the rest of my .20 in FSC goes into the pot.......and given to those runs that do not pay FSC.....????

Hello, sure it has a redeeming factor...It cooks the books so you LQQK good. Say, and I know this as true,
YOU AS A SPRINTER, GET A LOAD TO TOLEDO FROM Memphis. You get .70 per mile + .19 in FSC, However, Express-1 gets total pay of over 1800 dollars. THAT is a BIG redeeming factor, for the carrier.

What the carrier gets is none of our business, if we're getting flat rate. With the respectable companies, you can be sure there are loads where the truck gets everything in the load, just to move them. In a respectable company, it all evens out in the end. Problem is when you aren't driving for a respectable company, EVERYTHING done by the company is for the company's bottom line.

I agree with that up to a point. However, let's go back for a minute to these carriers that work with 3PLs that bid loads by e-mail. Some carriers miss a lot of loads because they will not go below - for example - 1.15 per mile + fsc. Suppose they could get 30% more loads if they would bid 1.10? Would the average cargo van driver be willing to take 5 cents less per mile to get significantly more runs? Keep in mind I'm talking about good trips - 400 to 600 miles, sometimes more. If this is the case, maybe a chat with dispatch is in order.
