transportation topics is back in the office.

from the latest issue, there will be lower energy per gallon of fuel with the sulpher stripped out.

volvo says they have seen a 3% decrease in energy from ulsd. celadon says they see a 2% decrease. tony geizler of volvo says a 2% power loss is a cost of 6 cents per gallon to the user. one source says that it will mean that truckers will have to purchase an additional 100 gallons per month above what is bought now. a spokeswoman for cummins says the engine manufacturer expects a 1% loss of fuel heating with ulsd and the loss is here to stay.

with the trucking industry using 700 million gal of diesel now the use with ulsd could push it to one billion gallons. the industry also uses 250 million gals of gas.(and when gas becomes e85 more will be used, editorial comment).

have a great time at expo. maybe next year for me.
