At Lewiston NY.they still keep the paper work.

My last 2 times through Detroit I was also given back my invoices. One guy said all we have to hand them now is the manifest with the sticker on it. My guess is that a minor procedure change like this may just be a memo on a cork board in their office somewhere and not everyone is going to get rapidly up to speed on it. I'm going to continue giving them all the paperwork. Of course, I suppose doing THAT could end up being a 5 grand fine!

Yes, Saturday just past Detroit gave me my paperwork back except for the manifest. On Monday, Port Huron kept all paperwork.

I was told that the invoices were no longer necessary to hand in. But, to be on the safe side, he said that other inspectors might ask for them, so keep them handy.

would there be any harm in making a copy of all paper work for me to keep just in case or would that be considerd some kind of a violation?

Stranded: Not only is there no harm but it's a good idea to keepa personal copy of anything You think may be important to you later. When the shipper sez: "how many copies do you need", I always ask for one for myself. To date, I have never needed any of these copies but it feels good to have it.
