This afternoon I received this message on my QC and also by e-mail. Did any other carriers send something similar out?


TSA Security Advisory:

TSA has issued Advisories to those who use
Commercial Motor Vehicles. This Advisory
is in regards to CMVs being used in potential
terror attacks or ramming large crowds.
Additionally, please be diligent in watching
your freight. Stolen freight and equipment
have increased in the first quarter.

We would like to take a moment to remind
you of the importance of being aware of
your surroundings at all times. It is also
important that you are paying close
attention to the inspection of your
equipment. If you see anything suspicious
or that causes concern, please notify our
safety department.

This last line really grabbed my attention. WTF! Would this safety department be a part of the carrier that has left me on hold for a new personal record of 75 minutes 30 seconds? This new hold time shattered previous records of 38 minutes and 72 minutes. If I ever see something suspicious that requires the attention of the TSA, I believe I would call 911 or Jimmy Johns, they're freaky fast. Probably the last people I would call would be my carrier. Um, I would call them before I called my dead Aunt Evelyn though.

Please allow me to translate part of the TSA warning letter into layman's terms...

"This Advisory is in regards to CMVs being used in potential terror attacks or ramming large crowds."

Translation:

Attention drivers of large commercial vehicles:

Worldwide terrorist are killing drivers of large commercial vehicles in order to easily take over control of the vehicle. Once you are dead the terrorist will use said vehicle as an easy improvised weapon to kill as many innocent civilians as possible by simply running them over.

Keep this in mind as you go about your daily operation and if you come under attack as the terrorist begin their effort to kill you please call the proper authorities who will take all the vital information such as:
your location;
make, model and color of your vehicle;
a detailed description of what you are wearing;
the make model and color of all of the assailants vehicles;
a detailed description of all of the assailants and what they are wearing;
a detailed description of all of the weapons the assailants are using;
what you had to eat for lunch yesterday and any other information they feel might possibly be of use to identify your remains.

Once all information has been collected, they will contact a local law enforcement professional and relay all collected information to the law enforcement professional who will then proceed to drive to your location fully prepared to step in and attempt to defend your life if you still happen to be alive after all this time has passed since the onset of the deadly attack upon your person.

Translation continued:
Rest assured, the federal government, especially we in the TSA, are deeply concerned about this real and verified threat to your life. Further, we promise to take care of your dead body and promptly notify your family. We are confident in the current system and find that other than this warning letter there is no need for us to implement any other changes or to recommend any other changes that would allow you, the operators, (drivers) who are at serious and verified risk of death to actually protect yourselves immediately at the time of the initial attack upon your life.

There is no need to go out and get self defense training. No need to get training on the use of weapons of self defense and especially no need for us to change (or recommend change of) any rules, policies or laws to allow you, the at risk individual, to carry upon yourself any viable means to immediately protect yourself at the instant the attack starts.

Since you have a cell phone and know how to use it, you are as prepared as you need to be.
