Truth or Hype

I just watched another documentary about additives. I personally in all the years i´ve trucked and all the miles i´ve driven have never used ANY type of additive (diesel, gas, injector oil etc). I´ve always maintained my equipment with the thrust bieng on clockwork oil changes at 10,000 miles truck. 3000 miles car. I have NEVER had an engine failure. My maintenance failures were always peripheral systems (air, fuel, hydraulic, tires, cooling etc.) According to the documentary, which is also something i have believed for years, additives are nothing more than bunk, designed to get us to buy all the crap they put out, to increase corporate bottom line. A case in point is injector cleaner for todays engines...doesn´t do a thing according to the experts. Injectors need replacing no matter what you do. They just wear out or go bad. Comments.

I'm with you. I also have never used additives of any kind in my truck, pickup, or car and have never had a failure either. I vote for all hype.

Not that it prevents failures, but I use STP oil treatment in all my engines. If you have an older engine (maybe one with a bit of valve/lifter noise), add some of this stuff to the oil and observe what happens. It definitely makes a difference.
I use some anti-gelling addatives in my diesel fuel during the winter as I live in a cold climate area. I have experienced gelled up fuel lines in the extreme cold and they are not easy to un-gel.

Try a couple of bottles of Howes Meaner cleaner. I have used this stuff for years and get 1 MPG better then without it. I have done many MPG tests with or without it and the the stuff works. One bottle generally costs about $9.00 and gives me 4 fillups, about 300 gallons. Without it I get about 10 MPG,with it I get 11.5 MPG.the math works out to 450 miles better using this stuff then without. At1.15 per gallon I save about $50.00 minus the $9.00 for the additive so $40.00 per bottle is saved. Howes advertises 5 % better mileage and they really are right on with this one. I have checked this numerous times and the stuff works. nuff said.

A lot of folks don't really consider how much one or a few MPG can mean. Here's a case and point (mine, has nothing to do with addatives but when asked how I could get a new truck this is how). My new truck with DDC electronic engine is easily getting over 3 MPG more than my old FL70 with mechanical Cummins. I run about 100k miles a year all inclusive. Old truck 8 MPG new one 11 MPG. Doing the math with fuel at $1.35 a gallon new truck saves me about $4600 a year on fuel alone (not to mention no repair bills either.) New truck costs $320 a month more than old one, but I still come out $760 ahead a year just with fuel savings. Just a few MPG on the plan can make or break you.
