Truth In Advertising & Posting?

Let me just say that it gets a tad disheartening when, so far, every carrier does not live up to their advertising or forum post boasts. Every carrier has good & bad, I know...but once-and I am only asking for once-I would like to see someone come CLOSE to what they claim to be! I wonder what it must be like to wander this mortal plane sans conscience. They probably sleep better than any of us honest people ever will.

It is just advertising in general and not limited to the trucking industry. Look at almost anything advertised today and you can find them stretching the truth.

That would be my take. I still find it funny that some carriers can't even publish their rates unless you call. That is a buyer beware when I see that.

A advertiser possibly not telling the truth, leaving some things out?. I'm appalled this could happen in today's society.:p

Not publicly, not a moron. However, if people say it hasn't happened to them with carriers they've signed on with? They are probably lying to save face or willing to put up with anything. Some things carriers claim are mere exaggerations. Others turn out to be out and out lies. The more a carrier brags seems to be directly proportional to caveat emptor. Narrowing it down to the lesser of the evils at this point.

What is worse is they publicly boast to what they pay per mile, even verbally avow to it over the phone...then once signed on, it's like pulling teeth to get what was promised or rather what they have told all of EO-land they will do.

Some that do the bait and switch are percentage companies and others will say they pay say 1.20 per mile for straight but if they are a "preferred customer" then it is 1.12 per mile.
Bottom line is the majority of their customers are "preferred".
Just basic game playing.

Sounds to me like you just haven't found the right carrier yet. I am sure some carriers on here are like you say, but not all of them. I think you will find a number of honest reputable carriers on here, but like anything you have to look for the one that is best for you.

My boyfriend has been at this 7 years. He's dealt with many. He's stayed solid with 2 & that's because they are tolerable. The boldface lies from the others he has had or has, he dropped 2 recently and isn't too sure about this new one...45% dh...75 cpm when they blather in forums about paying more than $1...get real.

I know what she's talking about. I haven't talked to her, but I know what she's referring to.

She might have worded it differently in that yes, she hasn't worked w/ every carrier. I have a strong hunch I know what she's talking about here.

The Load 1 Drivers seem pretty happy. There are a few others who are happy w/ their company also. On the other hand, there's a lot of less than great companies out there too.

So maybe she worded it wrong by saying EVERY company lies. I think her point is spot on though.

Problem is you can't please 100% of the people even 50% of the time, what makes a perfect fit for you might not work for someone else.

Dennis,

I can't speak for EVERY carrier. I can think of a few examples of where I was mislead, if not flat out lied too though.

1) get paid in 30 days. That seemed like a long wait, but I went w/ em anyway. Then it became 30 days after invoice. I got 3 runs from this company in 4 months or so. 2 of those 3 times the originals I mailed got lost. The PODs had already been faxed. I remember posting about one of those times.

I did eventually get paid, but like 6 months later. That was for about $1200. Ironically, this same company paid me twice on a $600 run. Stupid me should have kept the $600 & just said "ok, you still owe me $600." But no, I told em about it & they cancelled the check. I was fine w/ that, because that's the way they wanted to do it. I guess in looking back if I was the one who told em about the being paid twice, I wasn't going to go cash the check on em.

2) A recruiter told me the reason their company paid less was because they paid for hotels up to the first $40 per nite. Ok, that makes perfect sense. So I get to orientation. We go to another place to have my signs put on. I bring up to the hotel thing to the guy who drove me there from their office & he's like "huh?? we don't pay for hotels.".. DOH!!!!

3) Another company insisted on calling at 6AM every morning. This was whether ya told em where you were at the nite before or not. I guess that in itself wasn't a lie. However, when I asked em to stop & they said they would, but kept on doing it, then it became a lie.

I'm looking for a 2nd company here. I'm extremely happy w/ the runs that get me out of here. It's just that I come back w/ nothing a bit to often. Here's part of what I told the recruiter. If they want to sign me on, they can. I've at least been honest w/ em though. Here's part of my letter:

As for the local work, I want to be upfront that I'm mostly going to be using you folks to get back home. EQS pays a fair amount more per mile, so I'll be using them to get out. They'd pay $75 to get me down to the Detroit area, where as you folks would pay me about $40. Those are pretty big differences. A lot of times they don't get me back home though. That's where you folks would be coming in.

That's as straight forward as I can be. I'm not leaving my house to go down to Detroit for $40 because they need a run covered. If I'm already down there I'll come back to this area for that if nothing else is available. They know in advance they're signing on a guy who'll be taking very few runs for em.

I think what Lisa was getting at is for someone to say how they're paying their drivers over $1/mile & they need more drivers & then offer .85 or whatever it is, it doesn't add up.

If your on a pecentage contract, the pay can vary,as od discoiunts. On a mileage contract,as i am,mine never changes,as long as I do tractor expedite freight.A back haul may change cause it is may be a broker load, then I get 85%,but they ask if I will do for that price

Explanation and clarification...every carrier my boyfriend has signed on with via EO ad or post has turned out to be less than what they claimed. Granted there were a few word of mouth ones that also didn't pan out...I guess if a company can't deliver what they promise (and I suspect they know they can't), then I think we would all appreciate them not saying they can. Thanks, DannyD...for having my back & not being presumptious.
