Is there any official stats on number of small trucks 'expediting' now verses previous years.Has their been a noticable decline in truck numbers since december.

Don't think you will find any real # out there , it's all estimated.
to the point we all hope for the trucks vs freight ratio to be on our favor once again.
many out there say that the hard times ,slow freight ,and decline credit , will ,by nature "eliminate" many of the trucks - there for provide more opportunity to the "surviving" ones.
keep in mind that it is all over the place now , and with so many Americans loosing their source of income - The newbie waive will never stop - and many will become successful expediters.
maybe the illusion that truck numbers will go down - is not so up to date .
as (and if or when) freight volume pick up ,more Americans will use the opportunity to become Expediters - there for keeping freight rates and truck vs Freight ratio the same.
if there is money to be made - people will come to the industry.
or if one choose to , one can listen to the ATA screaming for years of driver shortage , (they still do ... ).
