After several years of considering Trucker Buddy and backing away before signing up we finally bit the bullet.
We signed up last year and this summer we were assigned a class near our house. We introduced ourselves via email to the teacher and she sent back a little about her and the class.
We first started receiving email letters from the kids through the teacher with a little about themselves and some questions for us. I have been responding to their inquiries and have also been dropping postcards in the mail for the whole class.
When we knew we were going to be home I let the teacher know so she could schedule a time to visit with the class. We arrived with the truck and were escorted to the class room of 4th graders by two of the students. The kids were amazing and they had lots and lots of questions about us, the truck, and what we do. We then went out to the truck so they could ask more questions and see where we live.
Neither Bob or myself are really kid people but this experience blew both of us away. We were not prepared for the kids to be so excited to meet us in person. As they all trooped back into the school they were waving good by and calling out we cannot wait to see you again.
If you have ever considered this are want to learn more here is the web site:

I have a picture of our class with us on my blog:

The rewards of having a class and meeting them far outweigh the little effort it takes to write to the kids. I find email works for us best and others prefer to write to them by hand written notes.
