Will I have to log in a class C truck? What's the weight line between logging and not logging? What's the weight range on a class C truck with an average sized sleeper? How high is up??? Thanks.

All hazardous materials must be logged and any commercial carrier for hire has to be logged. This is according to Georgia DOT, different states different rules. Probably, I always thought if you where under 26,000lbs. you where good to go. Anybody else want to chime in on this. I would always check with your carrier requirements, as that is who is paying the bills! Normally a "C" unit is required to carry 5,000lbs. What you have for equipment is what will dictate your overall weight. blah, blah, blah... 14 foot box, seems to be the minium in most cases. This gives you a full 12 foot of storage, with your additional equipment on board.

Missouri requires any commercial beyond local vehicle with a 'registered weight' of 12001# or greater must log and scale.

>I believe you have to log over 10,000 lbs. I also believe
>that you go by federal law,not state law.

That's my belief also. State law cannot preempt the feds. Myfigure of 12001# and above of registered weight is misleading; a small truck under 10,000 can register over 12,000 ie. 18,000 to avoid payment of MO sales tax. The consequence would then be log and scale.

I drive a van for a trucking company delivering freight and they require me to do a daily log. I was told by my employer that if you drive a van and go over 100 miles one way to pick up or drop off you fall under DOT rules for logging. And yes I do get wrote up for log violations.

What I have heard is that a state can have a law that is greater or more restrictive than federal, but not less than federal. So, while logging is not federally mandated for less than 10,000 GVW, a state can say we want vans to log, scale, ect.

JG;
Drivers operating vehicles with GVW in excess of 10,000 lbs. are required to log. Drivers of vehicles transporting placardable amounts of hazardous materials are also required to log regardless of GVW. The state of Alabama requires all commercial vehicles to log (any vehicle with signs).
This is the gospel according to the DOT.
Amen.
