Truck Fluids

I was curious what yall are running for fluids for your truck? Engine oil, Trans fluid, differentials and hubs. We have a kw t800 with m11/ism cummins and 10 speed ultrashift. We want to start doing our own maintenance as much as we can. Any opinions would be appreciated thanks!

I should add that I use Power Service gray in the summer for the cetane boost, and Power Service white in the winter for its slightly less cetane boost and antigel. I also use Howes Meaner Power Cleaner pretty regularly to help keep the injectors clean, and in the summer when using Power Service gray to disperse water from the fuel (PS gray does not disperse water, PS white does).

Power Service gray has a cetane boost of ~6, which brings the crappy US cetane levels closer to that of European diesel. Power Service white boosts cetane about 4.

Incidentally, despite what's in the manuals of older Sprinters, MB specifically recommends against (MB Sheet 137.0) the use of kerosene or aviation turbine fuel in diesel fuel to improve fuel flow in colder temperatures, because of the lower lubricity of low sulfur fuels. They recommend either "winter diesel" (preferred) or an anti-gel fuel flow improver (like Power Service or Howes, although MB no longer recommends any specific brand either here or in Europe).

Fuel System I run Howe's lubricator antijell year round, your injectors and fuel pumps will last allot longer. Cetane booster helps, I also recommend keeping a couple bottles of Diesel 911 this can work as a MINOR problem solver incase you mannage to build up water in the fuel, get fuel thats contaminated with water or if your fuel Jells up. Of corse if you run Howes in every tank year round you dont have to worry about the fuel jelling.

Engine, trans, and diff lubes check what the OEM recommends. Most manufacturers are the same and the generic brands are often made by the larger manufacturers only re packaged. I work directly with a local oil distributor for all my product tech data. I recommend you do the same as they can sugest the right product to suit what you are doing. If they don't want or offer assistance find annother vender.
Grease I use Castroll Pyroplex blue this is realy tough lube wont wash out and has good flow to keep a good lube film on the moving parts. If its not available I recommend Mystix high temp red as a seccond.
Engine lube change every 12,000 miles Dino lube/ conventional oil 16,000 for synthetic. OIL AND FILTERS ARE CHEAPER THAN ENGINES!!!! If you run local and don't rack up the miles at least twice a year.
Engine oil fuel, and air Filters. WIX, NAPA, and Car Quest are good too as they are Wix just theier names printed on them.
Engine Coolant Prestone Heavy Duty purple with S.C.A. additive. The SCA additive will keep the cooling system from pitting your cylinders. This product is OEM fill for Detriot Diesels.
Engine belts and hoses and hoses Gates Green Stripe heavy duty. Yes they cost more but they last allot longer.
Speaking of NAPA and Car Quest, they have a heavy duty parts line. They have some parts on the shelves but what they don't have they can order in and ALLOT cheaper than the dealerships.
Penray is a good line for chemicals in fact they make the heavy duty Prestone.

Another thing I recommend is do some research on local parts vendors.

Feel free to PM me if I can be of further assistance.

Bob Wolf.
