I cannot believe that anyone in the industry is having trouble filling truck driving positions when their idea of pretty good money is 37,700 a year!!! How does this fool even have a company..

Even if they do consider that decent money, how bright do you have to be to figure out that there's only a shortage based on the money being offered or the working conditions, and improving both will solve the problem? With all the new regulations and security (bullspit), it would take an awful lot to get me back over-the-road.

We've been over that elsewhere. 37,700 a year isn't shabby, but in order to get that you have to have perfect health and be willing to put up with all the government regulations. Frankly, holding a regular job begins to look mighty attractive when you compare it against OTR living in a big rig.

Funny thing, that. Used to be one of the reasons you would take a long-haul job was the freedom. Now, freedom over the road is a memory as you have to jump through an increasing number of regulatory flaming hoops. Today if you want the freedom of old, you have to dump the rig and drive a van.

I agree that regulation is also hurting the industry, even expediting and vans are worried about more regulations comming!!
