My wife and I are thinking about getting involved in expedite loads. We are semi-retired and are looking for some part time income with the oppertunity to see some of this country. I just started reading the posts here and I noticed some people talking about class b,c,and d trucks. Could someone please tell me what size or type of trucks they are talking about?(We are realy new!!) We have a 14' one ton cube van, what class is that?
Thank you

i belive most places would say that is a "c" class truck. not to put you down, but, i kinda dislike people who only want to do this on a "part-time" basis. we are out her trying to make a living, and it is hard enopugh with out part-timers out here, but good luck any way

First, don't ever worry about people who try to discourage you because you want to do this part-time. That is your business, not his. Who knows, you may spend more time out here than some of the "fulltimers".

The truck you mentioned, a one ton cargo van may qualify as a B unit, if it will carry enough weight and at least 2 pallets. When you measure out the space required for freight, you'll see that little room is left for a team. I would suggest you look into signing on to drive for someone else and see if you like the lifestyle. I would also suggest you try driving a C unit (14' box with sleeper, 5000 lbs)as that would give you a little more living room. A Class C CDL for a truck under 26k GVW is fairly easy to get too. I trained my wife with a U-Haul truck.
