Hello everyone, Has anyone been thru the Birmingham area since the tornados,. I will be traveling thru next week and wondering about road conditions. if conditions warrant, i guess it might be a good idea to just reroute.
Thanks

We are actually en route now, about 20 miles from Birmingham AL

I-59 N is clear and we called ahead to fuel stops - they are mostly all working now.
Though I would still recommend that you call ahead .

My nephew went down to check on some freinds... he said roads leading into the city were fine. He had problems when he got off the main roads, but was able to make it.

I got a load from Cleveland, TN to Midloathian, TX and I would reccomend getting a top off of fuel in Chattanooga. They had no power along I59 going into Birmingham and the stations that had power were running out. Apparently a nuclear plant had sustained a direct hit and was running off of backup generators. Just my few cents. Be careful of debris and some trees down along the berm of I 59 and I20 but the highway is open

I appreciate the information. I DONT have to go thru birm but it would be shortest route, thus saving fuel. But, it might be worth the little bit of savings to keep from larger problems.

Thanks

I stayed at Loves T/S in Clanton, Al the night tornadoes hit. Report was that they took the nuclear plant off line as a precautionary measure. I saw no problems with I65 the next day.
