Tough time.

Had a real tough time sighting in a rifle today. It was SO hot! There were heat waves coming off of the grass that were distorting my view. Sweat running into my eyes, my glasses kept sliding off and I could NOT keep my cheek right on the stock, it kept sliding around.

I had boresighted the rifle at the house before I left so at least I was on paper when I got to the range.

It took me 20 rounds to do what should have taken 10 but at least it's done. I REALLY hate summer! WHEW! Each day is another day towards sane temps. It was 88 with 75 percent humidity at the range. No wind, so that helped. I am surprised that the bullets were able to cut through that thick air. LOL!

Sure is hot. Went out to zero in my new squirrel gun few weeks ago. The bugs were so bad. Its just a good thing to be home .

What outdoor range are you using? We are looking for a decent one around us, and the closest one is Island Lake out by Kensington

I don't use public ranges. I joined Monroe Rod and Gun Club back in 2000 and have maintained a membership ever since, even though I don't get to use it much. It would be several years before another slot opened to get in again so I keep it up.

Private gun clubs are the way to go if there is one in your area.

LOL! Yeah, us HobKnobers have it made!

In reality, from where I live, it would cost me more in gas to drive to a range and back, several times a year than the dues cost. I pay $125 per year. IF I had time to do work details I could cut that to $100. It would only be, at today's gas prices, about 3 trips a year to the closet state range and back to equal my dues. Then, after you include several hours on the road for the round trip, wear and tear on the pick up truck and tires, it's hands down cheaper to belong to the club. I also have the advantage of being able to go a a moments notice, it's only about 8 miles to the club from the house.

Besides, I could not HobKnob while driving! :p
