It was 10 years ago today that I hauled my first expedite load. I was an employee of Con-Way Now and driving a company owned van. I picked up in Roseville, Mn on a Saturday afternoon with a delivery in North Palmyra, MO. Monday morning.

The company gig lasted 13 months. I enjoyed the expedite freight industry so I bought a van and leased on. I truely enjoy being an owner/operator but sometimes I miss the company paid motels.

Until 6 weeks ago I had a 100% on time rating and a 100% safety record. I got charged with a late pick-up. I accepted a load offer with only 2 hours to go 120 miles. About 80 of those miles were 2 lane. It was a recovery load. Myself and another van were dispatched to pick up and deliver a C load; 4 pallets. I was told to do the best I could and that the other van was closer and would arrive before me. I made the delivery on time. I was just late to the pick-up and got zinged for it. Oh well! It is up for review with the powers to be.

Alot has changed in 10 years. I now have a laptop computer I carry with me. I have been a member of E.O. for just over 1 year. I am making less money per load and running more miles per year but I still enjoy it.

I know I have a long way to go catch up with many of you as far as experience goes. But I'll keep on keeping on as long as it's still fun. I'd rather make less and enjoy what I'm doing at least as long as I can afford it. Money ain't everything. But it is the root of all evil. So for the most part I'm a good person.

The only Star Wars movie I ever saw was the first one. Which really wasn't the first one because it came out years after the original. I took a bunch of the neighborhood kids and they tried to explain it to me. I'm still confused. I'm not sure about that Yoda comment. If I must be Yoda can I be a verile Yoda?

Man, that was soooo absurd watching that movie. I used to be a huge fan of Lucas, but that nonsense where Yoda did all that and then had to grab his cane to walk???

Come, how real is that???

:p

Highway Star young or new at this WOW.

Let me open myself up here feel free to critisize me.

After three years if one is not an expert at what he does than one has not paid attention. Room for improvement, further education yes. But this is not rocket science here. What it does take is a strong dose of discipline to make it in this business.

Oh I enjoy learning something new, but those of you who post I learn something new everyday well come on I would like to think that as well. I do accept the challenge but reality, unless I pick up a book or meet some more intresting people do I really learn something out here?

Sure I can have a great ordinary day like Dec 31 where I drove for 14 out of 24 hours listened to the radio and mapped my way accross the coutnry but did I really learn anything other than the top 100 songs from 1976? I just do not remember I had driven the route before maybee a different time of month.

I consider any of you with more expierence than myself as Experts. Don't sell yourself short no one has all of the answers, maybee a few more mistakes, is this not where the real education comes into play not making the same mistake over and over?

Moot Congrats, now do I want to be doing this 8 years from now?
