Tired of high priced showers?!!

OK, enough already! T/A and Petro may have justified their increase of the shower cost from 10 bucks to 12, but NOT PILOT/FLY-J!!!! I encourage you people to send an e-mail like I did to Pilot/Fly-J and tell them that they should do some upgrades to their showers if they want to match the price of T/A and Petro. Here are some things I mentioned. The more complaints the better!! 1. Two fluffy towels and wash rags, a floor mat/towel for each shower. (my wife/co-driver are sick of asking for extra towels and then getting war-torn rags). 2. Luxury shower heads. 3. Blow dryer. At least these items. I told them their high dollar coffee costs should pay for them. LOL!

I have not paid for a shower since the 80's but that does seem high. Many of the PJ's have or are having long over due upgrades done. Anyone stop by the J in knoxville lately? The drivers area rocks also has a new Denny's driver area. An extra towel would be nice, already getting the floor towel. I have seen hair dryiers at a few but not the norm. I'm not sure what a luxury shower head would be, but I like the new ones most have. They have been behind the ball with upgrades but I do see progress being made. My gripe would be the disappearing shower bars of soap in favor of what ever that liquid stuff is haha. I don't think their coffee is over priced either.

I hadn't been in a truck stop shower since the late 70's, early 80's until I started expediting in the late 90's. Seeing a real door that locked, a sink, toilet and shower; I thought I died and woke up in a Super 8. I usually buy enough gas at the Flying Pilot during the week to get a couple of free showers. I can't complain.

What is your secret? How have you not been paying for showers? I know about the reward cards, but if it's slow one can not get showers credits.

With current carrier they have a great arrangement with PJ. Before that, just ran enough to get them. Just lucky I guess.

Did people generally stand upwind from you back then?

PJ has updated many of their showers with cloth bath Matt's new tile, better shower heads, any even have an ipod or phone plug in to play your own music over speakers. I might pay for one or two showers a year when i can't get to a PJ but that's ok.

Moot, if people are unhappy with present showers wonder what they would have done in the 60's and 70's.

A real knuckhead buddy was seated in a bathroom. Another friend was seated next to him. No dividers between the stalls.
A stranger walks in. My buddy Art, reaches over and starts rubbing the other driver's leg and sings to him.
The stranger looked like he saw a ghost, turned around and quickly left.

Never having paid for a shower I only have one complaint, Pilot installed this fancy new tile thats slicker then whale snot when wet...I have about fallen three times, Its too darn fine of tile, it needs some grit or grooves or sumthin....the IPOD plugs work pretty neat, Ive used my phone a couple times,

I've heard of a driver going as far as to use the Wal-Mart bathroom to do a wipe-down kind of shower.....lol..

The farthest I have ever went is to drag a garden hose in the back of my straight truck at a previous carrier...and use the load bars as a shelf to put the duffel bag and towels and clothes on...If you leave the garden hose on the hot asphalt it will heat up the water in the hose for a real hot shower...lol..The floor was polyurethaned real heavy, so water ran out the back door real nice...lol...The previous carrier was too cheap to put a simple shower in for us...lol..

Remember anyone standing on a pallet in a shower you accessed from the outside at the big and only truck stop on 17 in Savannah? circa 1977

One of the problems, as I see it, is no matter the company making the upgrades soon finds that no good deed goes unpunished,

It's not the cleaning crew that's trashing the showers .....

If I operated a system that offered showers, there would be a $20.00 deposit, to be returned after the shower had been inspected for damages after your visit.

There are drivers who seem to get a trill out of damaging truck stops, not just the showers. PART of the problem, though, is that they often use cheap, low end fittings that break easily. A lot of the truck stops are not known for doing a good job in CLEANING either. Slob drivers don't help in that regard.
