Tire Wear II

The minute I pulled the truck in the doctor told me "your pressure is to low" ?()^%%$ What I thought your nuts. Puts the ole tire guage and he shows me yep 95lbs. I said thats what the specs are he dissagrees and shows me WRONG.

I would have sworn on my mothers grave that it was 95 when acutally its 110. Where did I get this info from? Still kicking myself. Anyway balance was off on tires, front end was OK but did tweek a little. Trued the tires.

Now this is where it gets good, he told me I had better get ready to change my driving style. ??? he was right on, no more letting off the gas to slow down comming into a city. This truck rolls, and rolls, and rolls now brakes are now being used much more.

Now the best part between now knowing my true tire pressure and the tires being trued, I am now achieving over 9 mpg and I have had very poor conditions to check this with WV turnpike twice with heavy loads.

Feel stupid, but wanted to fess up to all of you and let you know the true results. Please if you are ever in Charlotte, NC Carroll Alignment on 1305 S. Tryon phone 704 376 4475 1st come 1st serve opens at 7:30 am. Since 1945.

Very little damage done to the tires cought it early enough but my ego pretty brused up.

Sounds like they gave you great service.
Their advise is correct. Steer tires depending on the manufacturer and size, should be 100 to 110 lbs.

On the rear duals, we run 100 lbs a tire.

I am putting that name in my address file.
Thanks for the tip on the shop.

It looks to me like using the brakes more would decrease mileage by needing more fuel to get started and having the expense of replacing brakes more often .

Hey BP!!

Don't worry, that ego will heal up just fine. Thanks for sharing some really valuable information. It's great to learn from your own mistakes. Personally, I'd rather learn from somebody else's!!

Be safe out there - Scott

As for using more fuel, nope, she speeds away with less pedal than I thought possible, remember the tires are now perfectly round no drag. And heres the best part 9.79 mpg overall, from very, very best previously 8.3 heres a quick math savings of 23 gallons for just a half a tank.

One and half full tanks of fuel, about a week and half of running normal and it has paid for itself $179.00. Anyone else got a better $ savings investment than that??? I would not be bragging if it were not true.

Hey Broompilot ! - Don't feel too stupid, we all do from time to time. Matter of fact I have been wanting to ask "whats the diff. bet. classes of trucks"?

I was thinking (there i go again as my wife wouldsay !, lol)an"D" unit was a van, but see where it is a straight truck from what I'm guessing.

So when youu and others quite laufing (I'm doing it to) could ya straighten me out ?
