Tipping

Ok have a question for ya'll.

Is it customary to leave a tip for the "shower attendent", not sure exactly what you call them but the person that cleans the showers inbetween uses, and if not should it be?

This is what got me thinking today. Got a shower at the J west of Nashville and there was a waiting list. When I finally got to the shower there was a nice hand written note from the attendent and it said "have a great day, drive safely and come back soon, Liz."

You know this has to be a thankless job. We tip servers at a buffet that just refill our drinks and these people have to clean up after god knows what. If they make more than min. I would be surprized.

To make a long story short I left her $2 and was just wondering if maybe I had been missing something and if not SHOULD it be something considered?

If the showers are clean...I mean clean...you know air vent not all moldy and the corners are clean....then we do tip and thank the attendant for thier effort....with some it seems to really make thier day....especially the ones that care about the job they do......:)

I think Not,
it can easily become a part of the cleaners expected income , which very fast can get the shower price up .
many truckers are using this service daily ,and bubble for teams.
it can become a big annual fee that we all then have to live with.
this people are doing this job by a choice , for a pay.

if the J HQ will know about this note,it will get the cleaners fired.

i once have seeing that note , and left a note of mine stating :
thanks for the kind note , and thanks for also leaving the Pilot complains 1800 # ,along with the store # ... i think i will call them now...

when am using the TS sowers ,i always take the time to clean after my self , it take about 15 sec. and make the cleaners job some what more pleasant.

We do tip sometimes. If the attendant is on the ball, we get an extra towel; the attendant is busting their behind to keep up, attitude and a few other reasons. Hard to believe though that this does not happen very often!

OVM , you are right in your own way , yet ,well
why will you tip a waitress and not the cook that made the meal for you ???
why will you tip the bell boy (i did this job once) and not the receptionist .
the caby and not the dispatcher...
Do you tip the gardener , the door man,the guy that bring the wood , ...(Seinfeld...)
what if you use an ambulance service (like i did recently ,they did not deserved any tip !!! ),

It is all in your mind !
in many places around the world tipping is prohibited .
when i choose a restaurant, i like to know in advance how mach the meal is going to cost me ,if i like the waitress i will leave her my phone # ...

Moose this is not around the world this is here in the most generous country in the world the great US of A. This girl today was obviously very busy as every shower was taken plus several waiting.

You say you were a bell boy and did you ever refuse a tip? Did you split your tip with the receptionist?

This is not a perfect world but I guess I like to reward hard work. This person is cleaning toilets and showers. Why not help them out when they show good work.

I owned a pizza shop that had delivery. Its customary to tip the driver plus they got all of the delivery charge if applicable but the cook got nothing. However, most of the time the driver would give a little something to the cook much like a waitress gives part of their tips to the bartender.

I guess I am with OVM on this if its clean and they show they care I am going to tip.

If it's clean, I leave .50. Five guys did a good job washing my truck, I gave them a dollar each. Truckstop waitress does a good job, I leave $2. If not, I leave a dollar. If she's exceptional, and the food is really good, I leave 3 or more.

If you don't watch yourself, a good chunk of your money can go to tipping. More and more workers expect it. Well... I'm not one for being politically correct; but if you do a good job for me, specifically, I will reward you. On the same token, I'll accept a tip on the rare occasion the consignee wants to give one.

If the shower is clean, AND I don't have to wait a long time to get one, I always leave $1.00 I also believe that the person is probably working for minimun wages and the fact they are trying and not just collecting warfare goes a long way for me.

I hope and prey that I am never forced to clean up after other people to feed myself or my family.

Thats the way I kinda think of it...The J doesn't pay top wages and doesn't seem to be that great a boss....and here is this person doing a great job cleaning up after people and NOT on the public payroll.....And just maybe it makes a terrible job a little worthwhile...

Yes, we leave a tip if the service is exceptional. We've also made a point of telling the manager when the service is exceptional.

When i get my truck washed at the Blue Beacon, and I'm very particular how its done,i've been known to slip the guys 20 bucks, cause tipping isnt permitted. When i'm at a resturant,my tips very by the service. If it sucks 10% and a talk with the manager, good service 15%,eceptional can be 20 t0 25%.I like my steaks Pittsburg rare, thats charred on the outside, rare in the middle, not an easy thing to do.I have been known to ask to talk to the cook who cooked the steak and gave him 10 bucks.Your not going to get this in a truck stop.I like Texas Road Houses, they will even cut your steak to the size you want, but be ready to pay for it.about an extra 8 bucks. As far as tipping the cleaning lady at the truck stop. She gets paid for that job,and ive not seen where anyone has taken special care in doing that job.I havnt tipped yet,but thats not saying i wouldnt

Should I get a tip from the customer for delivering the freight early? After all, i'm just like the pizza delivery guy? Do you think NLM will get upset if the crew in Janesville pools their monies together to offer me a tip for delivering my load a few hours ahead of schedule? lol

I do not tip shower attendants and I rarely eat in restaurants. I do this mostly to avoid having to leave tips. But I do tip at least a 2 dollar minimum when I eat at the "j" regardless of the kind of service that I receive. The only problem with all this is that I am a "cargo van driver!" If I went tip crazy, i'd be forced to hit the unemployment line faster than a swift driver can take down a light pole. So, I just suffer in my van with my can of bush baked beans and a weeks supply of snacks and sodas in a consorted effort to avoid the wonderful world of "tipping." Oh, and I get my truck washed every time it rains! It is my humble opinion that most companies do not pay cargo van drivers nearly enough money to justify pulling an "OCD" trip every time some break dust magically appears on the rims.

Yes I tip for showers. Not every time, but I do tip. They have to put up with a lot. I tip for meals, every time. I start with my min tip of 1.00, depending on service it goes up never down. I saw a man and woman sitting with another driver, drinking coffee. The one driver stood up to leave and said he would buy the coffee. No "thank you", came from the man or woman. They ordered a meal, ate have of it, said it was awlful. Then ask the server to fill thier water bottles and large drink cup with ice. The server did, and when she brought it back I heard the man say "we are not paying for this meal, and we are not leaving you a tip, you should have warned us how bad it was." She went above and beyond for them... I left her a very good tip. I didn't want her to have her day shot by two butt heads.
