time change and wrecks

I got the following in a newsreader feed. It's interesting to note an increase of almost 37% in the number of accidents the Monday after time change. Today and tomorrow would be good days to be extra cautious.

The Detroit Free Press obtained from the Michigan State Police crash statistics for the average Monday vs. the Monday after the time change, and the numbers are pretty crazy. On an average Monday in March, there are 1,022 accidents in the state of Michigan, but on the Monday after the clocks are moved forward, the average amount of accidents between 2002 and 2006 jumped to 1,396.

Probably because people that forgot to reset their clocks are running late. Drivers feeling rushed, distracted etc. are not going to be as cautious.

I agree with DoggieDaddy..........that means to stay out of Michigan the first Monday after the time change.......

it wouldn't be a bad idea to stay out of Michigan all together!!!
Whatcha think???

Yep, very true...

As for drivers being late, that is normal.

And I wish many of the people who live here also stay out.

I'm sure it's not limited to MI so I'll drive as if idiots are everywhere.

Didn't have to wait until Monday! My co-driver was rearended in her personal vehicle early Sunday afternoon by a guy who dropped something on the floor and was looking down to retreive the object. She is pretty shook up and spending the night at Beaumont Hospital.

Arrrrrg!

So far...2 suspected fractured vertebrae. She's in lots of pain. Cat Scans today and MRI tomorrow. Hope all ends well 'cause I'm gonna miss her. Looks like I'll be goin' solo for awhile.

I'd like to see what the national statistics are on this subject. I'm sure our gov't. has spend millions studying this one time or another. Maybe a Congressional hearing should be set up to study this further.. Waste some more of our tax dollars!!!

And your right LDB.........drive like your surrounded by idiots because most of the time you are, especially in cities!

That's a bummer about that accident, not only for her but for you too; and due only to a dropped object and a moment of inattention on a stranger's part. Things can change in an instant, can't they?

I totally agree with this. I had a close call at 9AM on Monday. Lady ran red light and stopped about 2 ft from running into the side of my truck. I thought I was big enough to see...i guess not.

Right on, Phil and aripen! She was on a 2-way service road and doing 15mph as she slowed behind cars which were waiting at a red light. Driving a Dodge Intrepid, she was struck from behind by a large SUV. She had enough of a cushion between the she and the cars in front so that she did not hit the car ahead of her, and enough presence of thought to keep the car from moving into oncoming traffic.

I the flash of a moment...things could have been much worse!

AND...the best part is that Pelicn got the load we were to pick up Tues morning!!!!

Never ceases to amaze us that somehow we change to invisible mode out here. I don't remember switching on the "stealth" button. Had one pull out in front of me yesterday but I TOTALLY understood..........he was busy.........ON THE PHONE!!!!:mad:

The study I saw actually narrowed down the window to the half hour after sunrise for spring, and half hour before sunset for the autumn time changes. The fall time change was something like ten times worse than the spring time change. It's theorized that it has to do with people being used to good daylight visibility and then the lights are turned off the next day. You're used to wheeling out of the donut shop parking lot down the street from work, but after the time change your speed doesn't match the suddenly new conditions.
