Three months of flat rate

So we've been flat rate for three months now.
How is it working out for you?
So far all I've seen is our rate per mile go down and our dry run count go up.
I haven't seen more loads or "more miles".
I wonder when the contractors will begin seeing the benefits of this program.

WE are not on that pay system, BUT, some of the benefits we have seen is fewer loads and lower rates. THEN, add to the mix, those who are willing to run for less just to keep their wheels turning, and this is just becoming about as much fun a breaking a left big toe.

When we saw the increase in broker loads, no change in DH miles and much heavier weights as the flat rate settled in we decided to leave... This was a change we were going to make a year ago before we knew about the flat rate plans but we held off...

We've seen far fewer surface loads. (We're in a DR-TVAL truck.) Fewer, if any weekend runs.

For some reason, we've also been seeing monday loads being dispatched on Thursday. Not sure why they're dispatching loads out that far. Hard to turn down some of those loads, but would prefer to work 5 days instead of 4.

I think we are seeing Monday loads being dispatched on Thursday either because there are fewer loads available, OR, loads are not getting covered. Long DH gets involved as well.

As to 4 or 7 days of work, I would be quite happy with 1 if it paid enough! LOL! Work less, paid more, THAT is the "secret" to a happy life!

And we also see a lot of load with more DH than loaded miles ,we did a load of toilet paper to walmart dc with 7hr waiting to unload an no $$&$ for detention and the truck next to me came from the same shipper same type of load same weight for $700 more from a broker

When I came to FedEx I was welcomed by Bob C. my CC and he said Welcome to FedEx we got all the work You want the Sky is the Limit. I should not have to Repeat this again. I do not believe in Socialism or Communism and I served this Great Country for 23 years and was on a retainer till my 30th year SO I refuse to support any agenda that puts Limits on how much one can make or how much work any given Individual can do. I need to work and I have a Da Burn Good Reason for it. Needless to say for me the Needs of the many (My Wife Needs ) Out weigh the needs of the few (My needs). Now the correct phrase is we got all the work you can handle The sky The Limit. I believe if a person want to work then let them work. Dividing up work or putting limits on how much you one can make that's not what this Country is about. America Land of Opportunity where "THE SKY THE LIMIT". We are still last time I checked are still a Republic are we not. Land of Opportunity we are!

I have been on the new flat rate plan since it started. To be honest it is not that much different from when i first started in April. I have found we do refuse about the same amount of loads as before. So personally I have not seen much difference in profit. It has been about the same for me.

So far my miles have been up but my average per mile is down.
Loaded miles rate down $.10.
All miles rate down $.21.
Since we run team and do more than 120,000 miles my gross income will be down more than $20,000 this year over last year.
I'm going solo this month to see how that works out.

Good Luck they want teams in the trucks but the freight don't pay to be a team. OTR should pay more than local Driver that goes home every night makes. No matter How you look at it min of 1000.00 a week should be made out here on the road after taxes.

Depends on the truck. TVAL trucks should gross a MIN of 5K per week. 7-8K, per week, is more like it.

Actually .21 and 120,000 miles is $25,200.00. That's $25,200.00 less pay for the same work. Of course it could be set up where each truck could pay the company $25,200.00 and remain on %. That times about 1,000 trucks comes out to $25,200,000.00.

Makes me wonder JJ, if someone siphoned $25,200.00 from your bank account what would you do?

Those numbers are just shameful and based on your reputation here on EO they can be relied on as truthful.

Got home last night had a msg from a FedEx recruiter. He said he was told I may have a truck that I might want to lease with Fedex?! I leased on March this year. Are they getting hard up for vans? I wonder if they actually loaded there own lease vans instead of trip leasing most of their freight if the vans would stay on. I was sitting a couple of weeks ago in Montgomery got a load opp from Montgomery to NC I excepted. Got a call back about 3 min later was it was dispatched to another truck. I was sitting in the door way of my van talking with 2 AJBlair drivers when one gets a call. He got my load!!! Pu, del, times, weight, miles all matched perfect. When you leave one of your own trucks setting in a parking lot because you auction off your freight it's not hard to figure out why trucks are leaving. I suspect it won't be long and FedEx will have no restrictions on trucks. FedEx is calling every number in their data base looking for trucks. Landstar, load one, Panther and others have a waiting list.

I think FedEx is doing whatever is the most profitable for them. We can only haul freight exclusively for FedEx Custom Critical, but they are free to broker out loads to any carrier they please.

3 offers yesterday all went to another truck. Funny because according to the status report I was the only truck in the area. Last one they called me to see if I was interested in a load. I excepted the load. She said let me tell the shipper we have a truck and I will call you right back. She called back and said the shipper found another company to take the load. BS, the broker they called finally called back with a truck. Paid .97 total miles they most likely auctioned it off for .65
