This week's DOT inspections

As most have been advised this week DOT nationwide will conduct extensive inspections. Just wondering how experienced drivers feel about these special inspection weeks. With everything the average driver needs to handle, including vehicle inspection and maintenance is there really a need for these "Special inspection weeks"? Would it not be better if the DOT just did their job the best they can all the time, and really try to locate the trucks that need special attention?

Just wondering.

It's my understanding that the upcoming inspections are going to be focused on brake adjustment. The inspectors are going to be handing out booklets and adjustment monitoring kits (DAMMMMITTTT, I can't find the link to the kits x().

As I don't run under a tight time schedule, I'm not too concerned, but I can see where an expediter would be.

The best thing to do is to make sure that the brakes are properly adjusted before hitting the road this week. The results of the "Safety Blitz" earlier this year reported that brake adjustment was the #1 mechanical reason for vehicles being put out of service.

Great advice r2r, thank you. I understand that Hazmat loads will receive level 1 inspections. Figures I pickup a hazmat load tomorrow morning in NJ going all the way to Alanta. May be a very long trip!:(

With FCC the level one inspection for free means it will count as your 6 month inspection so you've just saved some money..........hay, gota make the best of it!

I'm not worried about it. If it happens I'll call in and get them to adjust the delivery time accordingly. I think they should be this strict and diligent 24/7/365. I also think they shouldn't announce these things ahead. It gives the ones who deserve big fines a chance to skulk around or just take a few days off.

No worries when everything is in order.

Everything is in order in our house; consequently, we are not worried.

targuard86 The level one inspection will only work if you are due for an inspection. If you get get the Level 1 one month early you will still have to get an inspection the next month. :-(

I look at these just as I look at DUI check points. DO THEM! I have nothing to hide nor should anyone else and it can point out things that you may have not caught or something that has happened since you pre tripped.

I agree with LDB. It should be all the time. There are too many people getting away with too much. If a company can not adjust your drop time due to an inspection, I would not run for them. If they can not deal with this they and the customer don't care much about you or the freight.

I will say I wish they could spend some time just getting some of the people that drive like fools off the road. They seem to catch to few of those folks. Trucks, vans, cars, there are fools in all of them.

Take care of your equipment, don't throw a bad attitude at them, run legal and will not slow you down.I know a guy who takes part in these and they don't like doing anymore than like them doing it.

As it will be my 1st time going through the inspections, I have a question.
As a van driver, does the van need a DOT inspection sticker??
