OK boys and girls, this week starts the 2014 North American breeding and nesting survey! This year is year 59 for this project. Year in and year out, US and Canadian waterfowl biologists fly the same transects over all regions of the US and Canada. The survey is done from fixed wing aircraft from an altitude of 150'. It is a great tool, the primary tool, used to manage waterfowl populations.
I am lucky enough to know several biologists who have participated in this annual event and very much enjoy hearing their reports.
