This makes no sense .. to me anyway

Parked near me was a short wheelbase van .... inside was a man, woman and three dogs!

There is no way that can be comfortable ... maybe not even sanitary.

Now understand I also have a dog .. a small one .... just the two of us. And even then it is hard to sleep .... she demands too much real estate!

I can't even imagine three!

How about a man, woman, and 2 great danes? It was a long E350 with the Fed, roof covered with A/C, satillite dish, Q/C dome and vent, receiver hitches front and rear, one for a generator and the other for a box for stuff, I guess. I didn't get a look inside. Payload of maybe 8 or 900#? I wonder how much room there was in there for freight? It was an "I've seen it all now" moment.

There's one guy out here (if he's still out here, I haven't seen him in a while) with like half a dozen cats in his van. It's unreal.

It all depends on what the people in the van want and are willing to sacrifice. My wife and I have 2 bigger dogs a black lab/pit bull and a blue tick coonhound which are 55 and 25lbs, we have a small Dirt Devil to vacuum up fur and keep it clean. When you look at space, if you have a 2 pallet load space is at a premium even if it is 1 person, with no load or even 1 pallet there is plenty of room to lay down in the back and the dogs can sleep in the seats or on the floor up front. It certainly isn't for everyone but what works for some doesn't for others.

Having shared the sleeper with one 25 lb Boston terrier/Pug, neither can I.
But it might be that it's all they have in the world, ya know?

IMO, I think more than one dog is Unsafe.I mean, there can be a time, or more than one, where the dogs may distract the driver, diverting his/her attention from driving, and seeing what is going on, while in the mean time, a situation may happen on the road infront of the driver, that he ends up being involved in.This could of been prvented, the possible accident.

Another thing that gripes me is seeing a driver, truck or car, thinking it is cute, to have the dog either on his/her lap while driving, or the dog standing on the steering wheel when driving.Or the dog hanging out the drivers side window while part way down while driving.I really feel this kind of stupidity is what is going to ruin it for others, who train their dogs to lay either on the passenger seat or the floor or bed while driving and being loaded/unloaded.It wont be long before the DOT gets involved regarding this.

This could be said about anything, a distracted driver simply isn't paying attention and it doesn't matter why, it is the responsibility of the driver to stop if they are going to be doing something else that requires their attention.

The road ain't no place for a man let alone an animal. I have often thought about taking my cat on the road with me, but I won't do that to her. Hey, Turtle, I think I've seen that guy with the cats before. I think he drives an older white dodge van. When I was talking to the guy and the cats came to the window, the guy would hold their tails to prevent them from jumping out. I also met another guy who traveles with a dog and a cat and he would let the cat hang out under his sprinter with a leash! lol @ a cat on a leash!

I have seen him before but not for a couple years. He also had a ton of junk piled on his dash. Didn't want to get close enough to the van or him to catch a wiff.

Your talking about distracted driving? With your mind your constantly distracted. :D

Jeffman told me about a couple in a short-wheel base, regular roof van that had 3 medium to large sized dogs plus 2 cats and another woman in a S/T that had 2 cats.

I love my cats...enough that I know they are better off and happier at home with their "grandma" taking care of them. They have their own bed (the queen sized pillow top in the master bedroom seems to be the preference), their toys, litterboxes, and water fountain.

Jeff leaves his dog with a sitter, as she is 70 lbs. and would be miserable on the road.

I understand the desire for companionship on the road, though. That's why Jeff takes me instead of a dog...HEY! Wait just a chicken pickin' minute...

I remember an oncoming minivan with a terrior looking dog standing on the window ledge while she was running about 50 maybe, Her truck went up and over a rolling part of the hwy and the dog was launched out the window into oncoming traffic. The dog hit the road and rolled several time and took off into the woods. Nobody hit the dog and don't know what happened to it because we could not find it. The woman upset and screaming that her baby was hurt. I looked at her (maybe not nice to say) but I told her "Why don't you stand on the window and jump like your dog did." She said your mean, my reply "your stupid". I left.

New tangent. They are obviously trained but does having a driver + a wife + dog add to the number of restroom stops you have to make?

Or is everyone trained to go on the same schedule? I know for me, its annoying if I have to make a separate stop to use the facilities if I can't wait for my next fuel up, I couldn't imagine coordinating 4 independent beings.

You must be the nanny from this "nanny state" I keep hearing about. Worry about your own vehicle.

IMO I don't think so ..... every driver deserves company from a pet pal.

It maybe the only friend he has got ..... :(
