I'm sitting in a service plaza on I-90 in central NY having run out of driving time for today. This a.m. I unloaded some granite vanity and counter tops in Montpelier,VT and ran into some nasty weather on the run back to the house.

New York has a statewide NO IDLE law and the service plaza is equipped with Idle-Air. I just signed up and got an adapter for the passenger window, web access and a TV. The thermostat is set at a sultry 76 degrees and it's quite comfortable in here! $10.00 got everything set up including 7 hours of heat.

Looking at the brochure, this outfit has a lot of places set up nation wide. At $1.25 an hour, this seems to be a viable alternative to having a generator.

I'm gonna watch some TV and do a crossword.....g'night all.

A while back someonce called the Dave Nemo show and said they came down with some bad respiratory ailments from the quality of the air through the outlet. He said the air quality reeked of tobacco smoke and so on. That is the only complaint I have ever heard,so a spray can of Lysol might be in order for when you first fire it up. I tried Idle air in El Paso for free one day and I agree it is the way to go.

I'm waiting for the day to see some driver headed down the road with the attachment hanging from his window.

Ah, it's based on many, many true incidents with the old Park-N-View service. Many Truck Stop Owners had drivers pull out with their cables and phone lines still plugged in.

The Detroit even had a POD ripped out of the ground. ...LOL!

All in all, I had a good experience with the IdleAir system. It got cold very quickly in the sleeper when my 7 free hours ran out though!! A quick swipe of the Visa got things heated back up just as quickly.
I'm amazed at how much air volume flows through the system.

As to drive-away damage, I think the plastic window adapter would be the first thing to fail and that would cause minimal damage to the truck, if any. The air tube head is a pretty heavy item and I'd really hate to have one bounce off the side of my truck (or my head, for that matter).

The strangest part of the night was how QUIET it was in the truck stop!
