This is a sad commentary on the state of our nation.

Funny thing about that cause and effect thing. The 99-percenters are now running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to make ends meet and both because it's all they have time for and because it's what they can afford they eat junk/fast food and of course they're getting fat.

It is not cheaper to eat fast or junk food and doesn't save that much time. Last night we had a steak baked Potatoe and salad about 12 bucks for two people and done in less than 30 minutes.

Pink slime is even cheaper and a whole lot faster since you can eat while you're driving. If you like the chicken slime, McDonalds chicken nuggets are selling for just $5.00 for a 20 pack. If on the other hand your palate prefers beef slime, you can buy 5 double cheeseburgers for $5.00.

Back to the subject of the OP, it's likely that so many boys are growing up in single parent households, with the parent being his mother. Our public schools are a disgrace, discouraging athletics, competition of any kind in any area, mediocrity in all areas, and video games as the exercise of choice. It's pathetic how many of these young men can't pass the basic physical test, which for example, requires only 3 pull-ups in the Marines.

What do you mean back to the subject of the OP?!?! :)

Overlapping is the biggest category and it has no meaning.

Weight is included in medical and it's probably the biggest problem.

I briefly scanned the article - it's townhall.com so I really can't be bothered reading it but looking at the graph I don't see public schools, athletics, video games or pull ups mentioned. Perhaps we can get back on topic now... :)

2 qtr lb hotdogs for $3.00!!!! Now that's a deal. :)

If a great many boys are being raised in single parent homes, and that single parent is a woman, how come? Why are so many men willing to walk away from their responsibility to parent the child they conceived? Job's too tough for them? Women too hard to 'handle'? Why?
And why do you think public schools are "discouraging athletics" when I see exactly the opposite?

Xiggi: if you don't have $12 to spend on dinner for 2, it's far cheaper to eat crap. Hot dogs, bologna, macaroni & cheese, ramen noodles: cheap and filling, but not nutritious.
People on food stamps, or working part time, or low paid jobs, can't afford to spend $12 on one dinner.

We are eating better, losing weight, and spending about 1/3 LESS than we used to spend. The idea that it can't be done, is bunk. Being over weight, for the vast majority of us who are, is a matter of choice. We take in more calories than we put out. Eating garbage costs more than eating right. It's not even hard, boring, but not hard.

It is less boring when we are home, with a stove, and more food storage space to invent tasty stuff.
